I work at Best Buy here in Edmonton, and I come into work on Thurs night and see a whole bunch of tents and lawn chairs gathered around our entrance.
So I find out people have been waiting since 1 am Wed morning, for that PS3 that we'll release at 8 am on Fri. So about 44 hours of waiting time ahead of them.
So we had about 40 people line up for 24 ps3's.
I talked to the first 3 guys in line and asked them "you guys can't wait a few weeks for the next shipment of the ps3?"
They said "Screw the PS3, we're each getting paid 750 bucks a piece to wait here in line"
About half the line was looking to quickly sell it for a hefty profit, the other half actually wanted to keep it, or give it a son or someone else as a gift.
It's a nice cold evening here in town, so let's hope they bundled up nice and warm.
yea i was out at at a walmart yesterday and people were camping in front .. sheesh wait a month lol.. but some guy was on the one radio station here this morning.. he said he had 3'rd place in line.. sold his spot to some guy for 1500 bucks!! then took like 15th place in line LOL..
That's a little absurd. I wonder how much these things will actually sell on eBay for. I'm going to see if I can pick one up on my lunch break so that I can see what it gets on eBay, although I'm sure that will be impossible to find one.
As I was posting that last message there was a thing on the radio talking to someone at the MacLeod Trail Future Shop - the dude said that they only got like 15 of them and there were a lot of dissapointed people.
^ yea i heard about that freakin unbelieveable. i waiting in line for the 360 and ended up buying 2 extra to sell on ebay. I made good money. however i only had to wait in line for a few hours. 44hrs inline, is unbelieveable! and then you might not even be gaurented one. thats insane!
Jeebus Christ! I just watched that auction end at $6700USD .... He included free shipping! lol
The stores here were pretty nuts too. The Best Buy in West Hollywood had a midnight release on Thursday, with 200 units. That was the most I had heard of for any one single store. For the most part, the lineups and tents were at most electronics and department stores in greater L.A.
