  • Best home security?

Looking into getting a security system for the house. I have talked with alarm force as they seem to be good but not a fan of the contract thing. Can anyone help me figure out what to go with? Should i do the monitoring thing? Or is there a option of just getting a system installed without paying monthly for the 3 yr contracts? I have voip so that will up the price also i think to do the monitoring thing.

    Thx for any help

Not sure about any specific install companies but yes there is an option to just get an alarm with no monitoring.

Basically most alarm systems have the capability to activate a Siren/horn so if you don't want the monitoring you can just have the alarm sound if something is tripped. Think aftermarket car alarm siren x10.

Only catch is that most of the "free alarms" or "99 dollars installed" are usually because they are signing you up on their contract so it's kinda like Telus giving you a "free phone", so you'll have to pay more for the alarm system. If your house is already roughed in for an alarm though it shouldn't cost TOO much for install as all the wires are already there, it would just be the cost of the system.

            Hope that helps.

                1. Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men's used size 14-16 work boots.
                2. Place them on your front porch, along with several empty beer cans, a copy of Guns & Ammo magazine and several NRA magazines.
                3. Put a couple of giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazine.
                4. Leave a note on your door that reads:

"Hey Bubba, I went to the gun shop for more ammo.
Back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls --
they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him
up real bad. I don't think Killer took part in it but it was hard to tell
                from all the blood.

PS - I locked all four of 'em in the house. Better wait outside.

I have bars on the lower windows, double deadbolts on the doors (with keyed switches on both sides), including the garage. And I still have a monitored alarm. ADT, Counterforce, Alarm Force - they are all about 30 bucks a month. Signs and stickers don't even fool the high school kids.

                      ADT ftw!

both time my cat has tripped our alarm coming down the stairs before it was properly calibrated for him the cops were there in under 3 minutes. 3M breakproof film on all of our windows as well as bolt locks on all ground floor windows.

I re-did my garage door locked with a double deadbolt and steel plate after a homeless dude was found to be looking through peoples stuff for cans. Couldn't take the chance.

The honest to god best thing to scare of theives is light. I have lived in enough rough places, be it 12' walls, razor wire, alarms, deadbolts, none of that matters if thieves have the ability of darkness to work in. All can be bypassed given time. Take away the darkness and they are forced to move quickly, so they will usually move along to another easier target. Install motion sensor triggered lights around the outside of your house and all access points.

Our place in Jo'berg South Africa got broken into 3 times in 1 month and they took the TV each time. 12' wall with razor wire and 2 dobermans. We never figured out how they actually got over the wall but after we set up lights along the wall the break-ins stopped. They moved down the road.
