    Re: Off to Saskachewan!!

    Simon CLEANED up.

Won his class, won the chevette challenge, and won the overall Grand-master overall champion or whatever it was called for the entire weekend.

    Nice work Simon.

Unfortunteatly, I took home the most prestigious award of the weekend (quite possibly the best trophy of the night)........

The Hard Luck Award (Since I was the only one all weekend who broke and could not continue)

      Whats the chevette challenge?

Nice job Simon, I was just teasing above, we all know you're the resident pro.

Do you get to wear a black belt now?

$10 bucks to enter. 1 run in the Club Chevette. Fastest time takes half the pot.

I won the past 2 years. If you can autocross a MKIV VW and be quick, you can autocross anything.

              Re: Off to Saskachewan!!

Thanks guys... v.nice Corrado btw. There was something else riding on this weekend for me too, I was competing for overall Calgary championship with Rod... here is his post about the event!!

Background:The battle between Simon Lomas (HS) and I for the club championship was really heating up. Going into the weekend, Simon was short one event so if you took off one of mine we were sitting VERY close:
              PRE SSIS
              Rod: 787.51
              Simon: 787.45

Day #1: Ambrose was running with Simon so that he could get some points in Stock for his ASA club championship. It was a really good battle and they were really pushing each other and myself. They were working very hard to get everything out of the car. Including some front toe adjustments in the pits on Saturday morning, as well as Simon emptying his washer fluid to save on weight! Simon had really put the pressure on, and I entered the afternoon behind Simon with my two coned runs in the morning, but knowing what I needed to do after Simon set down his best (in the first run group). As well, Ambrose was on a smoking run #4 and decided to REALLY go all out to try and catch Simon, but unfortunately it resulted in a cone and he dropped quite a bit back having to be content with a slower run in the morning. He mentioned to me that even if he had made it through without the cone he wouldn't have caught Simon. Nice driving Simon! I did a really 'tidy' run on run #3 and ended up a few thousands back from FTD on my third run, as well as no pressure because I had PAXED higher than Simon. I pushed it REALLY hard on my fourth run, but only managed an extra tenth, but enough for FTD, and enough to beat Simon and pull ahead a bit on the championship...

              After Day #1
              Rod: 887.51
Simon: 886.86 (Still very close, but I have him sweating!)

Day #2: Based on our calcs going into day two we figured that Simon had to beat me by a little under 1 second on PAX to get enough points for the club championship.

Simon had run some smoking runs on Sunday and I was going into the afternoon runs with a coned run, as well as a coned run that I blew through the stop box (DNF)! And what about Ambrose? Well, this time Ambrose was co-driving with me and now we were also pushing each other. However, neither of us had got a clean run in the morning. I had about 0.5 second lead on raw over Ambrose ( so I knew he was still getting used to the car). Simon really had an uphill battle and had to beat me by quite a bit Sunday to get the club championship. He answered with some VERY nice runs and I was heading into the afternoon with a bit of pressure! Based on my raw times (mid 78) and my comfy 1 second margin, I knew that if I could clean it up I knew it would be enough to get Simon. Well, I proceed to get another coned run on #3 where I touched the stop cone, so ANOTHER DNF! Ambrose was then able to clean up his third run and posted a 79.2, a little slower than his best coned run in the morning (high 78), but all important it was clean and put some more pressure on me for my final run. Ambrose and I talked about it and we knew what the car could do, but getting the power down seemed to be more of a battle today. I was under some major pressure on my last run and all I could think was to do a nice 'tidy' run like I did on Day #1 (and don't forget to brake BEFORE the lights!!!!). I proceeded to get my tidy run but I think a little too tidy as it felt slow. BUT I didn’t hit the stop light because this time I broke about 5 feet before the lights! Ooops, but a least I stopped a bit more than 5 feet before the stop cone and was CLEAN with an 80.0 second run. Ambrose managed to take another little bit off and ended with a 79.0. Nicely done Ambrose, you beat me in my own CAR! ....

That's when the calculators came out...

Drum roll..... Here's how we ended:

              Rod: 889.68
Simon: 889.30 WOW, what a battle!!!

In the end, I'm disappointed that I didn't do my best on Sunday (I was able to get a clean 78.4 with a passenger on the fun runs, but both Ambrose and I think the car could do 77s). However, if AutoX was easy it wouldn't be any fun!!

I really appreciate all the competition this weekend from Ambrose and Simon as well as all the other competitors at SSIS. There was some REALLY good driving out there and I'm proud to be able to say I was in close competition with everyone!

I’ll admit that I paid most attention to the Calgary drivers, and I was quite proud of ALL the Calgary drivers and how well they did. I can really see some major improvement in everyone, and witnessed some awesome driving from ALL the Calgary guys. Well done!

It was a nice end to the season for sure... However, I'm really hoping I can get another shot at Ambrose. Nothing makes me faster than being beat in my own car (thanks to Robin Tong for doing that at the season ender last year!!! ).

Good Battle Simon.... I really hope my calculator worked and I got the number right!! With a battle that close I won't be celebrating until I see the official results!!!

              Cheers,

              Rod

PS. The highlight of my weekend was when I actually got to drive Bill T's Z06. WOW that car is absolutly AMAZING. It has been on my list for a while, but it just got bumped to the top. THANK YOU VERY MUCH BILL!!! I've been dreaming about looking down that hood since yesterday!!
