    Re: Take Your Best Shot!

The basic improvements of the D80 over the D70 are:

    10 mp vs 6 mp
2.5 inch lcd vs 1.8/2.0, double resolution and 170 deg viewing angle as well
    11 point autofocus vs 5
vastly superior viewfinder. 0.94x vs ? (it was a peeve of the old camera for me)

My D70 died an unfortunate death involving fluid so I needed to replace it. In fact I went with a D50 in the interim before the D80 came out, there's not much wrong with the D50 but I did want the extra features (larger lcd and viewfinder for ensuring focus and more resolution for when you get that really good photo).

The digital SLR market is getting to be a bit like computers, there's a very capable bunch of cameras that aren't cutting edge any more, the D50's a great example. Clearly a D80's not twice as good, and a D200 certainly isn't 4 times as good! If you're interested buy a good lense and a D50 and upgrade the body as needed(if ever) later. The inexpensive Canon offerings are crippled in my opinion and the new Sony is terrible in terms of image quality (pardon the apparent bias).

        Re: Take Your Best Shot!

Lenses for Nikon are cheaper in general, and since I'm a Nikon fan I'll stop here...in my not so humble opinion...Nikon > Canon > Sony, especially at the lower end of the SLR world. Out of the low end models only Canon and Nikon build quality equipment in my opinion.

Check out www.dpreview.com and www.imaging-resource.com for equally (although not in the same direction) biased viewpoints...

                thanks

All of those pics were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 880. I think i want to get a digital SLR soon.

Can someone tell me which detector is better; CMOS or CCD? I want to do a lot of long exposure images with low light levels and would like to minimize the noise that i get in the images.

                  Re: Take Your Best Shot!

In my experience noise hasn't been an issue for the longer exposures @ night, people talk a lot about it from a technical standpoint but practically its not been an issue.
