Well as some of you may or may not know I have been wanting to add another car to my stable and have been contemplating a new MINI. So last night I hit up Crowfoot MINI to see what BMWs little car had to offer.
First of all nice dealership and Kelvin was great to deal with too bad it is in Cochrane Anway I looked at a regular Cooper in the showroom and was impressed with the leatherette and exterior of the car, I like the stance and look of the car. The interior though has a lot of plastic and a lot of it looks and feels cheap. There is plenty of room both head and leg for front passengers but good luck to anyone in the rear, when the seats are pushed all the way back say good bye legs.
After I took the only remaining S in stock for a spin. The interior was pretty much the same with a darker dash that has a brushed look which I think is too fake looking and some climate control goodies. After leaving the dealership the first set off lights I was able to make the wheels chirp a bit even with the ASC traction control engaged. The ride was firm but not too rough, however I was disappointed with the handling and thought the car felt quite loose and it was not hard to get her to squeal around a moderate corner. The shifter is nice with short throws between gears and a fairly short clutch.
Overall I was somewhat indifferent to the car, it has good pep but not break neck some nice features (got to love HIDs on all MINIs) but it is not cheap at 30 grand for an S and it is not practical for most. However it may be a fun attention getting car for cruising around town and I woould like to see how it is in the snow but I am not set on the MINI and it looks like I would have to wait for a 2004 anyway as they have limited stock. It's no VW especially the interior but it is a unique little ride!
