  • What NEW car do you recommend for less than 40G's?

The girlfriend is in the market for a new car and I was wondering what you guys would recommend for less than 40G's including tax.

She's looking for a nicely loaded family car......no 2 doors guys.

She is currently very interested in the Acura TSX but we wanted to see what else is out there. The TSX is fully loaded, minus Navi, and costs 39 and change with tax included......not bad.

So if you know of a good quality car with similar features as the TSX and under 40G's, please chime in so we can go take a look at it.

    Thanks

Well I think size is an issue she could look at Jettas or Passats even. A new Saab 93 is a nice car in that price range and you can get GM incetives and rates too.

I'm really big on the price point of the A3 myself.

After leaving the Ice Cream meet last night....the wife and I were driving beside one on Crowchild. Very slick looking car.

We checked out BMW but the 325i is out of her price range and the 323i is really lame (ie. small wheels, no hid, ect).

The audi A3 is not out of the question, however the back seat room is a little snug and the rear seats are stiff and uncomfortable. A little pricey aswell for what it is.

The new rabbit doesn't offer leather and it's impossible to take one for a test drive because neither dealer in Edmonton has one available. You gotta order it and put a down payment to take one for a drive. They say its too hard to keep up with demand. So the bunny is not much of an option. Not to mention the fact that both dealers had poor salesmen (very dissapointing).

My girl doesn't like the new jetta or passat very much, so they are not an option.

Has anyone bought a new A4 (front trak) with nice options (leather, AC, sunroof, ect) for less than 40?

              Any other recommendations?

personally i wouldn't touch an audi without quattro.. thats why you buy the 4rings.. teh a3 is a different story of course but they need quattro on that 2.0t and those things would sell nutso

4dr GTI? Not a rabbit..a gti (comes with HIDs,can get leather, 17s are standard for wheels, 18s are upgrades etc..)

the A3 is basically a glorified 4dr GTI imo..very close to the same size but the GTI has alot of standards that are options on the A3 (HIDs, bluetooth etc)..and a fully loaded 4dr GTI is ~35 whereas a fully loaded frontrack 2.0t a3 goes for 5-6k more

The Audi dealer here in Edmonton told me that the 2.0T will be offered in Quattro in a years time.....along with the S package.

Stay away from the TSX, underpowered and overweight for what it is. You might as well get an Accord if you're looking at the TSX...

                        Some of my options:

S40 - decent power (even in 2.4i trim, 180 I believe), looks good and quite a few features and really good financing. I can't speak for the non sport edition but our T5 V50 handles quite good. If you option it carefully, you could probably get a T5 S40 for around 40.

Saab 9-3, Hot looking car, good power and even fully loaded is likely only a bit over 40 grand, and also really good financing. Or if you're like me, check out the sport Combi

Subaru outback- admitedly, I don't know much about them but they are often compared to the V50 T5. I know they have a lot of space and a pretty good engine with AWD standard. I'm just not crazy about the looks.

It's too bad she doesn't like Passats as they are a pretty good value and I really like the new look. Same goes for Jettas (altough I don't like the look of them as much).

And as was said before the 4 door GTI, I think this is a hot car and well below your price point even with lots of extras. Still practical enough to be a family car but smaller and sportier.

Personally, for under 40, I wouldn't look too hard at Audi's because you'll probably find that they are hard to eqiup with things you want while keeping the price low.

Also, we've had a discussion previously that if you're planning on financing that something to check out is the finance rate. even though 2 cars have a similar price tag, the amount you pay can greatly differ.

Good luck!! And hopefully we can add another Euro car to the club!

Edit: forgot one, there's also the Mazda 6, i'm getting a little bored with Mazda's stylings but probably just because the cars are so popular so you see them all the time. They are well priced (I don't want to say "cheap") and may be something to consider as they can be equipped quite well also (I don't know ALOT about them).

Anyway, I'd try to go Euro but trying to give lots of options (and try to show i'm not TOO biased haha)

Doesn't a subaru legacy GT come under 40? I always thought they were great cars. Doesnt seem to be a popular in canada tho. I think they get HIDs and the 2.5T puts out like 250hp. Plus ya get AWD. Oh and they look alot better than the outbacks i find.

You're right, Legacy GT is the one i'm thinking of, and yes, they DO look better than the outbacks, much better.
