  • Blair's Trip Pics - Egypt Mega Thread!!

Well Sarah and I spent a week in Egypt and we crammed a lot of stuff into that week along with surviving the 45-50 degree weather.

Anyway here are some highlights so I hope you enjoy them!!

First up the city of Cairo, a very very crazy place with nearly 20 million people and nearly the worst pollution of anywhere on the earth.

City of the Dead; where people live amongst old graves and tombs.

Garbage City; where people live by using the garbage from the city, nearly 30,000 live here.

Cairo Museum; Amazing place so much stuff just everywhere but no pictures allowed but King Tutankhamen's stuff is mind boggling.

Some of the old Mosques around the city.

Now of course one of the biggest draws in Cairo are the great pyramids and sphinx in Giza, truely an amazing site and we took a fun camel ride around the area.

Next we took a couple days and went south to Luxor (where it was stupidly hot) and saw some of the amazing places there.

First we went to the Valley of the Kings and went in a few tombs but no pictures were allowed inside, but the hieroglyphics were beautiful and still very colourful after 4,000 years.

Next was the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut

We also made stops at the Colossi of Memnon and the Valley of the Queens, Valley of the Artisans and Valley of the Nobles to see more tombs.

Next was the Temple of Karnak an extremely impressive site with 134 columns!!!

The next major site was Luxor Temple another large site and you can see our hotel on the right side too.

After returning to Cairo we spent our final night sailing on the Nile in a Faluca (Egyptian Sailboat).

          Hope you enjoyed the pics!!

Never actually saw a Smart in Cairo, not too many nice cars there as regular road rules do not apply, but I did see this one at Athens Airport

I think ancient egypt has to be one of the most boggling times in human history. Imagine what it would take to do some of that work.
