  • Anyone a Mechanic?

I currently work for an oil company and make pretty decent money for starting out. I use to work for bmw and loved it but got treated like crap and the money was crap. So i went to sait for a year, got my petroleum engineering applications certificate and now am doing this. I am unsure if i am 100% happy. I was curious if any one out there works as an mechanic or anything to do with cars and what kind of money they make or what school is involved? any advice, or info would be great. thanks!

Program Coordinator: George Schonnop, (403) 284-8211
    Information: (403) 284-8471
    E-mail: transportation.info@sait.ca

    The Program is as follows....

    Two-year diploma
    Fall start
    High industry demand
This program provides excellent preparation for a shortened apprenticeship
as an automotive service technician. Students spend about half their time
in a shop setting with up-to-date equipment, carrying out repairs to
manufacturers’ specifications and owners’ satisfaction. The maintenance and repair of the large volume of vehicles in Alberta provides many employment opportunities for well-trained technicians.

    YOUR CAREER

Graduates find work as automotive service technicians and upon
completion of apprenticeship can specialize in various areas such as
engine tune-up, wheel alignment, automatic transmissions, etc. They
then can move on to shop foremen, service managers and management
    positions.

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS (2006-2007)

Alberta High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 50% in the following courses or their equivalents: Pure Math 20 or Applied Math 20, English Language Arts 30-1 or English Language Arts 30-2 and a Grade 11 Science.
All students must write a mechanical reasoning test which will be
used in conjunction with the other criteria for selection of successful
    candidates.
For upgrading options, please visit our Pre-Careers program.

For international students, please view the International section.

For mature students, please view the Admissions section.

    STUDENT SUCCESS
Students with higher grades usually experience more success in SAIT's
    programs.
Advance credit may be granted to applicants who have completed
equivalent education at a post-secondary institution or have
demonstrated equivalent experiential learning. Please see Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition.
    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The program’s first and second years are each 32 weeks long.

    CREDENTIALS

Upon successfully completing this program, graduates will be awarded
a SAIT diploma in Automotive Service Technology.

    PROGRESSION

Students must attain a SPGPA and/or CPGPA of 2.0 or better in each
semester to progress through the program. To qualify for graduation,
students must pass all courses and attain a CPGPA of 2.0 or better.

    ACCREDITATION

Most graduates continue their training and complete an apprenticeship
that includes an Alberta Journeyman Certificate as an Automotive
Service Technician and an Inter-provincial Standards Red Seal. Diploma
graduates are eligible for 16 months of credit. In addition, you may be
granted trade-related work experience between the first and second
year, toward your apprenticeship. Students are also eligible to write
apprenticeship exams upon completion of training. The pass mark for
    apprenticeship exams is 70%.

    TRANSFERABILITY

Students who successfully complete the first year of NAIT’s 32-week
Automotive Technician program can complete the second year of SAIT’s
Automotive Service Technology program. Graduates of SAIT’s program can
