What do you wear to work?

Hi, its been a really long time since I have posted on the board, hopefully I will have more time for my car and the board now.

I just got a job in Calgary working at an international oil and gas company. Their offices are in a tower downtown, I am wondering what the expected dress is, I have never really had an office job before.

Any ideas?

I work at one of them "International Oil & Gas Companies" downtown and its "Dress Smart" which essentially means no jeans and T-Shirts. Mostly I wear golf or collared shirts and decent pants. Some people wear ties but they are ususally just for hanging yourself

If you are unsure wear a tie the first day and lose it if you have to.

yea.. lacoste or le tigre polos and khakis is what i wear..fridays jeans and a polo
somedays long sleeved shirts and dressier pants..

Within reason, dress for the position you want.... not neccesarily the one you have.

Exactly.....very good advice. I too work at an Oil & Gas company, and although some people wear ties, it is totally acceptable to wear a nice golf-type shirt and dress pants

Ties are pretty much banned for anything but a nerd engineer or a pretend-a-banker. Be careful!

What about for a non-nerdy engineer?

In my interview I rocked the tie but i'm not really into wearing one every day.
