annoying phone calls

hi guys i was wondering if anyone here would know what the hell this is...lately i keep getting fone calls from (403) 444 4970 and wen i call it back i just hear a ringer tone thas it (the tone u hear wen u first pick up ure fone)
they keep calling and making a wierd noise and hanging up

no i have gotten the same thing but not for awhile now...it used to be once a day last yr for awhile from the same number everytime but not the same one u listed...pissed me off

im on voip not sure if that had anything to do with it

Probably telemarketers checking if you are home. Usually it's a 1-800something number but maybe some are local, I can't remember.
Their system detects if you pick up at that time of day...

Could it possibly be a fax? They have the automated numbers sending out fax ads all the time and if they think you are a fax they just keep trying over and over again.

Yea that happened to me, 3TIMES A DAY!! eventually Telus did me a "favour" and sent them a fax telling them to stop using my number.

Yep, I'd say it's a dialer, they call to see when you're around, collect the info and sell it to telemarketers...my method...if I don't know the number they'll leave a message. They've even got my cell now...

Hey I'm getting the same call today from the same 444 number. Did you ever find out what that was all about or how did you stop it??
