Since we have such a tech-savvy group here, can someone recommend a good external hard drive (make/model/price)? I just want one to back up photos and mp3's from my PC. Preferably not over $200US?

maxtor makes a few external usb drives, onetouch they are called, try that.

look at the 2.5" ones - laptop drives, lower capacity (up to 100g) but way more portable, and they might be more shockproof

I bought a standard 200gig unit for the same thing, bought it on boxing day cheap, I'm not sure about any one brand being better or whatnot, but mine works great (comstar I think...)

Thanks for the input guys. The reviews that I've found on all of these seem pretty good overall. It seems the consensus is that they all do their job as advertised, just some small software or convenience features that differentiate them. But I found a 200GB Seagate for $169 plus a $40 rebate, so I think I'll give that a try
