We have maple on-site finish hardwood in our house which is coming up on 4.5 years old now. We have it everywhere on the mainfloor..including the kitchen. The floor looks great but there is definatly more wear in the kitchen where it gets the most abuse/use. Comes out nice and shiny after a good scrubbing but damn you really got to spend some time keeping it clean.

If it was me....if its a starter home then yeah I'd consider laminate but on anything else I wouldn't even think about it.
