In the last few days my computer has completely slown down, its running like an old 386. Loading windows up takes like 5 minutes and everything else is so slow. The computer has 120gb Ram 1gb ram, I've done disk cleanup, disk check, degfraged, spybot, virus scaned. I just don't know what else could be wrong. Can anyone else help me out?

If files get put on the outside edge of the disk, access is very slow versus the inside of the disk.
Windows is probably loading a lot of crap when you start up the computer that it doesnt need to load. This is not necessarilly spyware or anything like that.
Not much you can do except reinstall every so often. If you don't like doing it, you can use something like ghost to backup an image of your machine and restore from that every couple of months. A good system is to keep your personal files on a seperate disk/partition so you can frequently reload your system.KR

what i personally do is build my box to where i want it then i ghost image it to my webserver then when i feel the need to rebuild its a bit quicker then i just have to put on a few updated sofware packs

Re: Help! Computer Sucks!
i really like linux. didn't have enough time to learn it inside and out, so I went back to windows. had it running a game/web server for a while though.
as for windows, you can try stopping all the unneeded services, and make sure you dont have a whack of redundant utilities running (everybody seems to include a firewall with their utilities these days.. on should suffice). I found norton av to be super slow. for the utilities you feel you need to keep running, try some different brands.
Try Bootvis for speeding up the boot sequence, it made a HUGE difference in startup on my machine (like 1/2 the time)
(PS Hey Kris, you must know other Kris from UofC cpsc. Kundert i think? He spoke of VW Kris once.)Stefan

From reports I've read, windows xp loads in a little over one second and business apps open almost instantly. I'm thinking of getting this to store windows xp & pagefile.
