  • Shopping Carts

Since many of you guys are pretty savy when it comes to computer things I was wondering if any one has any easy solutions for adding a simple shopping cart to a web site.

I am looking at being able to sell a few items through my web site. I am set up as a Visa/Mastercard Merchant, so I think that that end of things would just need to be set up by my payment processing company.

Are there any simple DIY type shopping carts, or sites that will do it. Basically I am looking for somethings simple that I can implement rather quickly.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

One that is pretty easy to use is called oscommerce.

    http://www.oscommerce.org/

Its FREE. You can skin it to look like whatever website you want.

You can see some examples here:

    http://www.som-imagem.nl/index.php?language=en

    Anyway its really good.

We were going to set this up for EUTuning but the problem is that if you have a lot (hundreds/thousands) of items you want to list, it takes you forever to enter/import the data. Hey Simon, if you read this, maybe you want to still do this but with a short list of <50 items. Let me know.

I guess if you just want a simple website for a few things, oscommerce will do the trick.

Yeh, I got kind of wrapped up in personal issues for a few months huh! Well I was also thinking about this again recently. 50 items is a good idea and more manageable than the huge list I have right now

Well I don't want to hijack this thread anymore, but narrow down the item list, think about how you want them categorized, and I can input them and finish up a site - even if I have to enter them by hand. I know you've been kinda busy, me too, as evidenced from my missing 2 meets in a row.

        Annnnyway, back to you Andrew.

The oscommerce thing is really like a back-end that you build your website on. Or you can think of it like a commerce website that you customize to your own "look". But you may still be able to use it. There are plenty of examples on their site.

Adding a shopping cart is complicated, since there is a lot involved in an e-business transaction. You can't really just paste in some code if you want it to work like a real online store.

There might be easier stuff out there but I don't have any experience with it.

Yeah, the PayPal route is uber easy. You basically go through a bunch of easy steps to 'program' an add-to-cart button and then just copy and paste that code into your site. It works a treat!

Thanks guys. I was looking into Paypal, and in hindsight it is prolly the easiest. My Visa/MC vendor also has a sloution that I may look into.
