  • Shaw HD!!!!

    NVD members:

For any of you that have a Shaw cable HD box--- There were 6 HD channels when I signed up, last May--ch. 300 thru 306... I just noticed last night, that ch. 308 (TSN HD) has just been added!! I was whining to Shaw, about why Shaw had TSN, but not TSN HD, just before the CFL season started, but to no avail... (21 of the CFL games were broadcast on the TSN HD channel..).

As well, Shaw tells me today, that as of tomorrow, they will also be adding a CBC HD channel as well!! That means that I can watch the Grey Cup, and the western final this weekend, in HD!!! Man, what difference in picture quality!!! Watched some of the Flames/Detroit game last night, on the TSN HD channel--pretty impressive!!!! Shaw is FINALLY coming through for me, getting some HD channels that are worth it!! WOO HOO!!!!!! Go, ESKS!!!!!

Too bad Bell has 24 HD stations. When I move next spring I am thinking of getting HD but sattelite will probably not be an option so lets hope Shaw keeps adding more!!

Agreed...HDTV is good for hockey games..I watched last night...how bout those flames! But...I think it's a load of garbage how bad the normal signal was last night...I watched the normal signal and HDTV at my buddies house then went home to see how the non-hd starchoice signal looked and it was about 1/2 way between the hdtv and non-hd on Shaw.

I think Shaw/TSN is butchering their standard signal to make the HD look more appealing.

        Or maybe I'm crazy...anybody?

No, I've heard the same thing.....I just don't like cable in general though.....even digital cable looks aweful compared to SD satellite....No to cut anyone down, because alot of people have cable (and pay alot for it), but satellite owns it in every way....

Ryan, why would you rent an HD box??? For the rental cost after the contract period you've all but paid it off anyhow, and then you give it back?? I bought because I can hawk it and make some back rather than throwing the cash away.....Although, I would have loved a PVR but they are VERY backordered right now....

                Re: Shaw HD!!!!

I just upped my sat package....I pay $78 a month now for HD, 6 packs, full movies, and full locals......And then I pay $34/month for cable internet thru 3web, so I'm cheaper by a bit....
I was paying $42/month for standard digital pack +5 channel packs before.....The movies adds $20/month so thats where most of the cost is....It only would have cost me $10/month to upgrade to HD on my last package, but hey winters coming, and I like the Movie choice channels!

                    Re: Shaw HD!!!!

We have the Shaw "bundle lite" or something like that, with a bunch of movie channels, digital music stations, and Shaw high speed internet, for around $130 a month? (wife pays the bills, so I can't quite remember--but it is a lot!!). Seeing as how we already had Shaw, the cheapest option was to get the HD box ($425) with them.. We had ALL the channels for the first month, and then the "shell out extra per month" cables disappeared... Wouldn't you know--out of the 5 or so channels that we watched more regularly than the rest, EVERY ONE OF THEM was an "extra charge". Man, why couldn't they have some of the garbage channels (and there are a LOT of them) as the extra charge channels??? (yea, I know-'cause no one wants those).. I can now surf for a lot longer, before I realize there is still nothing on, some nights-- (Wed. evening is the worst...) But enough grousing--as long as I have TSN and CBC on HD, my Canadian sports needs are being met!!

                      Re: Shaw HD!!!!

They installed my Bell Satellite this morning. I don't have HD though, since I don't have a TV that supports it.

I love the Bell setup, and their menu navigation is great.

Any tips for internet? Is Shaw the way to go there?

I can tell you that Telus won't give you a deal on internet if you don't carry their basic home phoneline, which makes their internet service nowhere near competitive pricewise(if you don't have a home phone).

When I dumped Shaw for internet and discovered that my cable package was $50.00 per month I quickly cancelled it. I've had no cable or satellite for over a year now and don't miss it a bit. Anything that I actually want to watch I can download.

                              Screw em.
