one of these days i'll buy the HDTV expressvu.. i'm still with shaw.. it works but i'm too lazy to buy a dish before winter in the spring for sure i'm switching to bell tho.. i really need to get on HDTV.. having watched true HDTV in the US is amazing!
I am on ExpressVU. It's okay I suppose. I used to have DirecTV ... and once you've had american satellite it is tough to go back to canadian.
Wurd....pirate satellite is where it's at.....well....where it used to be at I have plain old shaw, but with the HD box and it's pretty good. It cost's too much if you ask me though....especially if you're like me and get Sunday Ticket and Center Ice
I have used Bell for the last several years, no complaints. Picture and pricing is better than Shaw.
Bell has a pretty good rental promotion going on right now.
Upto $10 worth of rental credits for the next 24 months. Free install if you agree to stay with them for the next 24 months, must be on minimum $47 / month worth of programming to get the credits.
Basic receiver $2.50 / month ($2.50 / month rental credit for 24 months)
PVR receiver $10 / month ($10 / month rental credit for 24 months)
HD receiver $10 / month ($10 / month rental credit for 24 months)
HD / PVR receiver $25 / month ($10 / month rental credit for 24 months)
With the HD receiver you also get free HDTV programming for the next 12 months.
I've got starchoice, I get all the channels we had with tier3 cable and it's less money. Plus I get surround sound (no HD yet though) and the added benefit of getting the same stations across the country so you can watch shows at different times (i'm sure everyone knows that). I got a whole bunch of free stuff so basically it paid for my receiver plus an extra free month. I like the fact that it's prorated by the day too so if we're going to be around the house more (say around holidays) you can up your programming for a few days and they just adjust your bill. I'm told Starchoice is a good entry level provider but if you plan to go all out on a receiver that Bell's are better and cheaper.
One of the sweet things I heard about bell though (not sure if this applies to starchoice yet) but you can have up to 6 receivers on one account. I know 6 guys that got together, got all the channels available ($120 a month bill) and they just split it between them, some of the guys are in alberta, some in Sask, etc. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me as long as you have some friends you can trust.
get expressvu over starchoice hands down. Starchoice = garbage.
and pirate sat. is back in biz, need all new gear tho.
Apparently its only a matter of months until we will be able to get american sat. legally here (in fact, right now its legal to have it in canada but you have to have PO box for billing purposes in the states, thats why schanks, dixons etc.. play the games on DTV)

Why the hate on for starchoice? (besides the fact they are owned by shaw) not offended, just curious.
Expressvu.... I'm also a Directv convert....I would go with the Expressvu HD receiver....the price isn't too bad at all per month, and the picture is WAAAYY sharper than digital cable...
When I lived with my 'rents they had starchoice...they just seem to be way behind the times...the one major gripe is they dont have a little window so you can pick a show, but keep looking. (expressvu and DTV both do, and its money)
Their menus are slow as well..their service was 'aiight tho. All starchoice really is is digital cable with a couple more timezones tossed into the mix

Haha, that's funny, after I got it and was playing around I thought to myself, why can't you pick a show and continue through the guide instead of having to open it again. I guess i'm not the only one.
