  • New Photo Radar In Edmonton

Edmontonians still have to deal with the traditional photo radar service, but now the Edmonton Police Service are showing off their newest weapon.

Supposedly the police have starting using this since summer, and are going on a '6 month trial basis' for now.

The only thing that comes to mind is as a fellow NVDubber would say, Weaksauce!

I heard about this on the radio that here in Calgary they are thinking of using Red light cameras to monitor speed, however it is illegal to have unmanned radar traps, I guess this must be a Calgary only thing, I wonder how long till they try and change that!

i almost dont mind the red light cameras, i think since they are marked, it actually minimizes the incidents of running lights, and it would slow people down too. Unmarked photo radar isn't preventing much, its just collecting money. If you have a marked speed camera (ie. at red lights) you would be catching a higher amount of truely careless drivers. IMO.

there is a guy in a van watching ours whenever it is out, when he is done he loads it up and takes it away to some other location.

I think its time for some photo radar plate covers. Anyone know if they're illegal? I imagine they are, but I may just get one anyway.

These things are supposed to be 'manned' by photo radar service people, who will be located in a car only meters away. If these things were left on their own, they'd be gone by morning.

Hmmm can you just put your plate in your rear window? Maybe an inch or 2 from the glass, so as to be visible to people behind you, but not to the camera?
