I went to see The Transporter 2, and since I imagine there is a lot of interest in the movie on this board, I am going to write a little review!
Let me start by saying that in general I did like the movie. I think it was worth my ten bucks and I had a pretty entertaining couple of hours. Its an action movie obviously, and if you've seen the first one, you'll know pretty much what to expect. One of the major reasons you should see this movie is if you like kung-fu type action sequences. Like the first movie there are a couple of really neat and well choreographed fights. Maybe not quite as good as the first one but close. I won't spoil them for you by going into details. I won't disgrace the kung-fu/action genres by saying that this has any truly great stuff in it but it is very decent and well done in this department. Thumbs up.
Obviously you're wondering why I havent talked about the cars yet, since lets face it that is what we all give a damn about. If you have seen the TV spots for this movie then you know that the Audi A8 is featured heavilly in this movie as the car of the "transporter". Well, I'll be blunt - the whole movie is pretty much a 2 hour commercial for cars, most prominently the Audi A8. I really like watching the A8 and would quite willingly go to see a 2 hour long A8 commercial. However, if you are not the kind of person who likes blunt product placement, you might want to think twice before going to The Transporter 2. They are really, REALLY blunt about the car placement. Just as an example, there are a few scenes with multiple cars in them and all are brand-new Audis "by coincidence" or as though we would not notice. They also show a Hummer in several scenes and most of those shots are of the brand name not the vehicle or the people in it. In all of these scenes they have long, slow pans over the company logo and car logos/emblems etc. For the Audi A8 they even show the W12 engine emblem specifically Its pretty obviously a sell-job. As I said, I like watching commercials for sweet cars so it wasn't a problem for me, I was grinning ear to ear. But some of my friends were groaning. Actually a reason to not see this movie is that it makes you wonder why you drive a jetta/golf and starts you thinking that you should try to get something like a BMW/Audi... well for me it did.
Also featured is a MurciƩlago which is sweet but the driving scenes in it aren't so hot compared to the A8. The driving scenes themselves are pretty good, but as european feeling as in the first movie, since this one is set in the US rather than france. They make the driving look easier in this movie too, its more like he has a sweet car (A8) than that he is a super good driver. A comparisson that comes to my mind is The Transporter 2 vs BMW Films aka "The Driver" movies. This movie really feels like a clone of what BMW did in featuring a car in a movie and making a movie around a car. However, to be honest the BMW films are better.
The criticism you will have after leaving the movie is that some scenes are not realisticly possible. I am the kind of person who can totally believe that something implausible happens in a movie like this. However, if you are [i]at all[/a] the kind of person who feels that they must talk about scenes that totally could never happen in 1,000,000 years then you'll be spitting after watching The Transporter 2. Its very very unrealistic, and the weak plot combined with these unrealistic parts will turn a lot of people sour.
PS- The evil girl in the movie is super hot. Can't write a review without mentioning this.
In summary, see this movie if you just want to see the cars and some asskicking and the occasional shot of a watersoaked hottie in panties with 2 giant guns. Don't go if you like to complain about unrealistic movies or bad plots because this is the mother of em.
Positives:
- Sweet cars especially the A8
- Decent action scenes
- Hot villian chick scene(s)
Negatives:
- Plot/plausibility
- Product placement gone mad
