  • gear oil

    hey guys a while ago i was told to get my gear oil changed after i properly learn how to drive 5 speed...its been around 3 weeks and i havent grinded, so i was wondering if i should get my gear oil changed out now, i think thats what its called? thanks

    I never did unless it was part of a service... but probably can't hurt.

      when i first started driving it grinded a like alot of times now im just asking if its wise to get that flushed out so the shavings dont keep roatating in there?
      and also wat should i say to them, i want my gear oil flushed?

        Those are good questions...

        Heh I don't know either, if you plan on going to the dealership I am sure you can make them understand what you mean... maybe Volkstech will respond

            I flushed mine after 3 years and put in the GM syncromesh, and that was after teaching my wife to drive stick, and several grinds. A bit smoother, but not earth shattering. I'd wait at least a year then flush it to give any other particles or burs a chance to flake off.

              alright bud and its called gear oil?, if i talk to a dealership or mechanic about it, they will know what im talking about?

                Yes, or just call it gearbox oil (there are lots of gears in a car). The syncromesh is by penzoil, but is relabeled GM or AC Delco and can be bought at any GM dealership. Search vortex/this forum for syncromesh if you want details.

                      on my gtx i have a magnetic drain plug in the gear box that gather's the metal
                      debri..i change it every 2 years with mobile synthetic 75w 90

                      dont have to but for $14.00 it gets me away from the wife for awhile..

                          the GM syncromesh is amazing stuff. we put it into our rabbit with a VW motorsports tranny and the grinding was solved. the stock oil that came in it i think was slightly too thing

                            but if i want that penzoil syncromesh stuff, and take my car to a VW dealership will they have that stuff there if i ask for it? or will i have to take it to a local mechanic shop or something?

                              Your best bet is wherever you take it, just go buy it and have it put in, be it the dealership, independant mechanic etc.
