  • USB2 and Wireless router help please

I know some of you guys are pretty good with computers so Im hopeing that you guys can help me out a bit. I want to get a wireless router set up because ive heard its not a great idea to run the net directly from modem (Shaw) and I would like to be able to use my Laptop around the house, both my cpu and Laptop are about 3 years old. So any suggestions what to look for or does anyone have something they would like to sell?

Also Im having issues hooking up my DVD writer (Sony Drx-720ul) telling me that I need a USB 2.0 connection and that my cpu doesn't have one, any idea how hard it is to put in one and what there worth?

So for all you 1337 I look forward to hearing from you !

I have a PCI Linksys Notebook Adapter for my laptop matched up with a Wireless Linksys Router. It works great! but just make sure that you get a "G" router and adapter....its faster then the "B". But the only problem that you might find is if you have 2.4GHz cordless phones in your house because it would on the frequency.

As for your burning you can get a USB2 Notebook adapter too....I have one and it works fine they aren't that much money....

    hope that helps some.

You can pick up a cheap router, for what you'll proally use it for you can get a wireless B router, then you need a wireless card for your laptop, and you can just use a cat-5 cable to plug your desktop into the back of your newley purchased router

www.memoryexpress.com has pretty good prices on wireless routers right now, and you can find a USB2 card to put in your desktop there as well

yah no way you need a G-router, 54mpbs is fast enough and will not be the bottleneck on an any internet connection.
