  • @#$%'ing virus!

ok..... first off, i am pretty computer smart... (at least i think i am)

let me begin... i was just about to check directions to 2nites GTG... when i noticed my symantec virus software was gtting errors trying to connect for an update.... so......... i tried running it manually... that dint work... so i went and downloaded the definitions and began a scan....... welll only 25k files in it picks up 8 viruses... (only 2 but 4 locations) so needless to say i start swearing and thinking about backing up data........... anyhow it's 3 hours later now.... and i am still fighting this beast. it's a variant of the new ones that came out this week....... it's really messed with some wierd stuff and i can NOT get my profile back to normal.. although most of the data seems intact. except my mozilla inbox, trash, and spam folder.........

i think i am in trouble with this one because i can't seem to catch all what's being done... it seems to be pretty smart.

the virus type is Trojan.Tooso..... L and K --> i have not openned anything... i was running AV and Zone ALarm w/ a router firewall... WTF!?

i am not running SP2 on this box though...

anyhow... i am trying to figure out how to get my favorites to point back to my profiles favorites directory... anyone remember where you switch that?

seems that i am logged into my profile but it's pointing to the root of C: and intoo the windows/favorites instead of /docs and settings/user name/favorites

to say the least i am a bit pissed and tired!

    hope the GTG was good...

    uhh favorites should be c:\docs n settins\user\favs

other than that please update to SP2 as fast as you can and update for that latest virus/ms hole

other than that if you need a slipstreamed sp2 cd just ask and i can bring you one for the next meet.

thanks for the quick reply, ryan

i found where the fav settings are sitting in the registry.. but it's not letting me change it although i am admin...

I have an SP2 disk here....... i'll patch the hole too... ( although i am not running a legit copy.. i think this corp copy should pass the MS new BS... ) i'm going to bed now... to fed up...

      but i'll update y'all 2morrow.....

Damn I'm glad I run all the servers at work up to date, Win Server 2003, and all the office computers on the Latest updates of SP2.

These virus' going around lately are pretty crazy!

Dont need SP2 to avoid this one, kb899588 patch from MS supposedly plugs the hole...Server reboots rule my life right now

well... it was not as bad as i thought... seems to be okay... installed some fixes... but not SP2... i still have to re-install my anti-virus software to get it working properly again... but otherwise everything seems to be "okay" now.

              thanks again...
