Pin striping takes beating..

Any other members with pin striping on their cars, have this problem??

It seems my pinstriping, which runs above the door handles, always gets knicked up, in the area directly above the door handles, over time--not sure if it's from finger nails (but that high above the door handle??), or what.... I phoned Calgary Coachworks, where I've always had the body work done, and they said they'd GIVE ME some pin striping!!! (I had asked if they sell the pin striping, so I wouldn't have to have them do it for me..). Only 1 door (driver's side rear, which doesn't get used too often) is untouched. My wife uses the pass. side front, and my daughter, the pass. side rear door..

I need to lose the door handles, and get that remote thing that pops the doors open, I guess...

I think the striping is pretty rare I don't think anyone else in the club has it!

I would just lose the striping alogether, then it won't be an issue!

After I posted, I looked at some of the pics in Member's Rides, and I didn't see any striping on the cars... I guess only a dinosaur like myself would have pin striping on his Jetta. It came with the car, and as I still like how it looks, will probably continue with it. As long as I can still get pin striping, at least I will be able to fix it myself!!

actually Pat's black golf has pinstriping. Don't know if he's ever had the same problem though, but no problem in asking. I think he's username is Pat or turbovolks.

It's probably just from age as it's just an adhesive that keeps it on and i'm sure it takes a beating under the sun especially after all those years.

My first reaction is "you should just take it off" because it would look fine but really, you're car sounds like it's in amazing shape, especially considering the year, and it's all original. If you hang on to it for a while, keep it all original you will have a nice collectable car. Just think of the beetles and vans that are "all original" it's a nice sight.

I say get the pinstriping (being free is a bonus!) and do it up!

I bit the bullet, and decided to do the pin striping last Sat. All went well, until it was time for the last of the 4 doors. I was told at Calgary Coachworks, to get an "eraser" from an automotive store, that attaches to a drill, and removes the pin striping, without damaging the paint underneath. After trying to peel off the exisiting pin striping, it wasn't that hard to do, when I first started. Only when I tackled that last remaining door, did I wish I had the eraser. It was a bear to remove that striping!!! Anyways, the new pin striping is now on, and looks great!!

At Coachworks, one guy stood at the front of my car, while another guy walked, unrolling the pin striping, to the back of my car, and then doubled that amount!! I think I have enough left over to re-do one door, should it eventually need it!! A big thumbs ups for Coachworks!!

It is most likely caused by your wifes nails or her holding things in her hands when she is opening the door. Watch the next couple times she opens the door. I've even seen people unlock the door then with their key hand they pull the handle with the key sticking out inturn scratching the paint/pinstriping.
