So, as many problably know I'm looking to ditch the VW in the near future and upgrade to something else. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on a couple possiblilities....
Audi A4
BMW 325i (minus the AC Schnitzer aesthetics)
I'm seriously leaning towards the Beamer at this point because of how cheap they are here in Cali, and I don't like the way Audi has priced their "optional packages" that make the base price climb past the 325 Since you guys are collectively some of the most knowledgeable auto enthusiasts around, I'd love to hear your opinions!
2008 BMW 135i | M Package | JB3 | DCI | BMW Performance Exhaust
Well I really like the looks of the new 3 as well but I am still a fan of an A4 as well (hoping to see a B7 S4 in the parents garage soon) but they are very close cars price and performance, I think I would let the drive decide but I would probably want the 3 series body with the 2.0T under the hood!!
Blair Former Cars: '12 Fiat 500, '10 VW GTI, '05 Smart Fortwo, '96 VW Jetta GLX, '02 VW GTI 337.........
In my opinion, I would go with a used e46 330. IMO, the styling of the e46 is nicer than the "new" 3-series.... as I don't like where BMW's styling is headed. The 330 would probably not be much more than the "new" 325, and the powerplant is not even comparable.
The handling on a BMW will be a huge step up from your Jetta. My brothers e46 on just H&R springs outhandles my car with a front swaybar and H&R coilovers. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the Audi, and would perhaps go with the A4 over the 325 due to mod potential.... but I think you may be best served with a 330. An M3 would be nice, but the price gap is huge. The e46 has a good assortment of options, and I can't say enough about the "driving feel" on those cars. The car feels so solid at high speeds, and you have a great deal of control.
Sidewalks are for normal walkin.... aint no room for fancy walkin....
haha this is true colin.. derick knows too.. his buddy ozzie (guy who had that red reiger jetta) has a 325 e46 and derick said it outhandles his jetta like crazy!!
i agree that a used 330 e46 would be fantastic but i think derick is like me and is weary of used cars..
Thanks for the input guys. Definitely alot to consider. Well, It just so happens that a friend of a friend here is a manager at a BMW dealership and he may be able to get me a good price on the new 3. So, as if I wasn't leaning towards BMW already, there's another argument in the cars favor!
I see the new A4's alot around here, and I think they look really nice and DO have alot of mod potential. The 2.0T poses a strong argument to buy the A4 and it would be nice to stay in the VAG family after having such postitive expeirences with my VW. But for my next car, I don't plan on doing any heavy mods as I did with my Jetta. So, again, pionts go to the Beamer for being a good performer right out of the box with no mods.
You've probably driven both, but as much as the 2.0T is supposed to be a nice engine, I will always love BMW's inline 6. The feel and sound of them is just awesome and the torque would be a lot better than a 2.0T.
I don't have a lot of experience though, so take my comments with a grain of salt, lol!
