    Re: opinions- 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Curb weight for the base GS manual model is 3,274 pounds (without optional equipment), up from 2,910 before. For the GT, base curb weight is 3,472 pounds, up from 3,329.
from cars.com.. so fully equipped (power sunroof, 650w amp, 10" sub, climate control, leather seats, 18" wheels) its going to be over 3600 lbs for the 263hp, 260torque GT V6.

I saw it in person at the auto show and it looks really nice, way better than the commercials make it look. But I'm not sure why they keep putting these V6's in them. They were so sucessfull with the turbos, and they were light too.

3.8litre is awfully big, especially for only 260hp.

I heard they have been recalled for brake issues, I think the early ones will and have LOTS of problems

Edit yes two recalls so far after a month.

i used to work for mitsu before i came out here for school. was able to take one for a 30 minute test drive 2 weeks ago. i was impressed with the car on paper and the styling was alright, not a huge fan of the front air dam but whatever.

          my opinions:
i HATE the traction control nonsense. car is completly useless in any type of moisture with it on. When driving the car with the TC off wheelspin is a huge issue and really gets old quickly. car feels slow to respond and on a quick, high speed short corner, the car likes to lose the backend. you can really feel the back end come begin to come out of line which leaves you wondering how hard you can really push the car.
the interior is typical mitsu, very cheap, and they didn't even color match the rear seats. i found the fronts lacked support in the corners.
from a stop the car accelerates well, but the engine feels slightly gutless compared to my VR6. wheelspin again is a big issue.
you really do feel the weight in the corners, and when going along at 80, gearing down, and going to accelerate simulating a pass the car did not have the get up and go i expected from the numbers.
i would not be surprised if the numbers are inflated.

as far as warranty goes mitsu does not exactly have the best name in the book, and after working for them i find their warranty system a bit of a joke.

would i buy one? prolly not. put the money towards somthing a little better in the price range.

spyder version is expected next model year, and its going to be about 350lbs heavier than the hardtop right now.
