Umm you haven't been keeping up with the news have you. Apple is moving to Intel starting in 2006, with all Macs migrated in 2007. It's a good thing(tm). There won't be too many software issues as companies will be releasing their products as fat binaries (meaning a version that works on PPC and one that works on x86). For those that slip through the cracks, Rosetta is an emulation layer that will allow PPC Mac apps to run on an Intel Mac. Basically, IBM dropped the ball and SJ told them to go F themselves (rightly so).

Never understood the draw to Mac...I can run any application I can run on a mac on a PC, in many cases alot faster and the software is released earlier....for 1/2 the cost.

You knock Dells but I could buy decent dell notebooks for the price of one 12inc powerbook.

edit: I take that back, for companies advertising or anything working with graphics, Macs are the way to go, but for the most part people use it because its trendy...like the ipod

Get the zen - buddy has one and it kicks so much ass. Unless of course you have devices that have ipod integration (like a new bmw etc). But if not for the peripherals and giant hd space, ipod isn't that great. I think I'm up to 2 gigs on the phatbox so 4 would be plenty for a portable.

Yah pretty sure it acts like a key drive. I believe you have to set how much you want to save (ie, 3 g for music, 1 g for data, or maybe 2/2 - you set it in advance though).

Actually no. People use Macs because they work. I'm a Microsoft .NET developer so I spend a lot of time working on a PC. But at home, I use Macs exclusively. It has nothing to do with being trendy. It has everything to do with using a great OS and not having to deal with the BS of Windows. And now that consoles are as good as they are, there's no reason to buy a PC for games. But I'm not about to get into a Mc vs PC argument. It's pointless and I don't have the energy to enlighten anyone today.

Yet you put that "enlighten" comment at the end. If you are happy with a Mac fine, but until you can show the same software selection, the same compatibility and less cost, you will continue to remain in a 4-5% market share niche.

If you have a set task (like desktop publishing, or movie editing) then a Mac does the task. If you want a taste of everything, a PC is the only reasonable choice (and you can't then ***** about the variety). Insert all pro-linux arguments here as well.

As a separate point, if you think console gaming is anything close to PC gaming, you are not a gamer. I use both and they are totally different animals.

I admit I haven't played much vids in the last few years. No time. The thing with Intel Macs is, I suspect you'll be able to install Windows on them as either a dual boot setup or something more integrated. So i can have the best of both worlds if I want -- OSX for work and Windows for games.
