  • Never buy a GM Ford or Honda again

Just listening to some bussiness news and heard that GM and ford are scrambling to get their new factories in China up and running.
Honda is allready importing cars to North America.
Here's the catch they are building there for the cheap labour. They are paying there employees the whopping sum of $50US/ month..
Sounds kinda like modern day slavery and we are paying the price...
Not that my opinion counts but i thinks they should ashamed

As deplorable as it may be for Ford, Honda, and GM to be building vehicles in China, a known and flagrant violoator of its citizens' human rights, it's really not that much different from what our beloved VWAG has been doing looooong before these guys ever thought of it.

However, it's important to note, in VW's defence of course, that their plant in Puebla, Mexico is bound by the provisions set forth by NAFTA. In other words, they have to play ball more with their workers than they would in say China. While the workers at the Puebla plant don't enjoy the higher wages and benefits collected by their Canadian and American counterparts working for other auto manufacturers, the plant is unionized and, in the current Mexican economic climate, a VW factory job is considered desirable. Also, the Mexican government is not known to stand idle in the face of questionable conduct by foreign business, especially one that has invested with major infrastructure.

Let's not forget that 10% of VWAG's worldwide production hails from Brazil, VW's second largest market after Germany. Well, somebody else can take it from here . . .

Good news for consumers though. A GM car built in the states right now costs an extra $1500 just for union health benefits. If people are willing to work for that sum of money why not build em there? You have to remember that the economic standards of the world are very different and every country in the world cannot support the standard of North America.

It's also worth noting here that in its beginnings, VW used 1500 Polish and around 4500 Russians in forced labour endeavors at KdF Stadt (now Wolfsburg). Approximately 400 Russian and Polish children between infancy and 18 months, while under the direct care of VW, were intentionally subjected to treatment so terrible and living conditions so inhumane that it resulted in their deaths.

It's difficult to debate morality on the side of VW after reading transcripts from the Nuremburg trials.

I thought that they were in the process of entering the market on the mass transport side of things, but wasn't aware that they were already there. Good to know . . . thanks for the info.

Part of the reason they pay so little is because it saves them money... but also for economic stability. If you started paying workers there around $50 a day for labour, that would be more than doctors or other higher paid individuals make. Thus, those people would leave their professions to work in labour jobs, which in turn would have a negative influence on that society.

Are GM, Ford & Honda going to be exporting these Chinese built cars, or are they for China's growing market?

If it's the later, you'd better sell your VW then to treat all car-makers the same. VW has been making cars in China (for the Chinese market) for over a decade now. They're crazy crossbreads of older model VW's. A derivative of the B3 passat is called the Santana over there, and they make a mk2 body type vehicle w/ an mk3/B4 front end. Absolutely Hideous ****.

Lots of their parts make it over here. Haven't you ever heard of the cheap Chinese Mk2 door handles? Or just look on EbayMotors. Probably 80% of the CHEAP lighting on there is directly from China.... Even the "hella" stuff. Hella has factories over there too. The quality of the stuff (i've seen it) is about as good as most other no-name lights - Ok, but not as good as German Hella.

How about we just go by automobile quality.

All you "do-gooders" out there obviously don't realize the concepts of economical diversity/dispairity, standard of livings and economic standards. Simply put all countries are different. You may think $50 a month is nothing, but you are basing that on a North American pay scale. To someone in China this money could mean they are able to feed and cloth their families. In order to evaluate an economy you must place yourself in their situation, not an outside point of view.

There needs to be balance of wealth in the world in order for economies to function. This is the whole basis of free market enterprise (yes I know China is a communist country). There is only so much wealth to go around in the world, just like natural resources. Picture a weigh scale, North American wages would be high on one side of the scale and China wages would be lower on the left. But in order to raise the wages of Chinese employees you must take away or add to one side. If China starts to get wealthier than North American wealth would decrease. Do you really want to pay more on every single manufactured product? You must remember that all expenses that a company incurs will eventually be passed on to you, the consumer.
