  • Cell Phone Providers

Just wondering who has what for cell phone providers. I am in need of a plan, and was curious about peoples experiences with Bell, Telus, Rogers, & Fido.

Also, if you happen to know of any good deal happening right now post them up.

    I have Rogers.

    Disadvantages:
    - Expensive, "hidden fees" appear on your bill
    - Crappy data services

    Advantages:
    - Good coverage
    - Supports the best european phones
    - GSM network

      Re: Cell Phone Providers

I am with Rogers as well and have been for 12 years now. I generally dont have any issues but then again my Mom works for them and so I usually dont see a bill Just remember Fido and Rogers will have same coverage and Telus and Bell will have same coverage but I like the Rogers hardware better!

Even though Fido and Rogers are supposed to be the same (I am with Fido), I think that Fido's coverage is far worse. If I had to pay for the bill, and not my employer, I would probably change. Can't beat a free cell phone though!

              DO NOT GO WITH BELL!!!!!!!!!!

bell has to be the worst service provider in the world. i finally just paid out my contract. they were cocky about everything, the people in the store were all the dumbest people i have ever met, and the thing that pissed me off the most is that i ask someone in the store about a "hidden" wireless web fee (now remember bell mobility said there are no hidden fees with there contracts) that i wanted to get rid of on my bill and the guy said "i have no idea what that is, we don't deal with bills here." i don't care! when i bought the phone you neglected to mention that id be paying this... its all a scam. and for any one on this forum with a bell account recalculate you bills because they were charging me like 8% gst. bottom like bell=teh suck

              sorry i needed to vent

                I have rogers too

                good:
                - Dont pay the bill (werk, but I guess thats bad as im on call all the time)
                - Since a got a new phone, reception is really good (FIDO addition helped)
                - if you need alot of minutes (like me) they have good packages (350anytime mins, free evening + weekend from 6pm instead of 8, voicemail + callerid for $49/mo)
                - Rogers has way better hardware

                bad:
                - Cell phones in general suck
                - Hidden fees (but all cell companies do this)

the point that Ill stress is that cell phones suck in general, doesnt matter which model or which company, its still going to occasionally drop calls and piss you off, after a cell phone gets 6months old the signal seems to degrade to..not like those oldschool startacs tho..man, they dont make em like they used to haha

I know what you mean, I have a work phone, but I need a personal/my business phone. My work phone is Mike, but the coverage sucks.

As for the StarTac, I had 3 of those, and still do, I also really liked my v60. The StarTac was the best damn phone ever. I might just activate my old one on a monthly plan. I would love to have the StarTac VIP or 10th anniversery edition.

                    Re: Cell Phone Providers

I'm on telus, wife on rogers. Telus better rural coverage, shittier phones. Rogers cooler phones, less coverage but it's better than 2 years ago.

I think I will switch to rogers and go on the couples plan (2 phones, contracts for 30/month + all the extra ****).

My Telus bill on a bare minimum talk20 plan is 34 bucks I think.

You can get locked in on special offer contracts through either rogers or telus sometimes... for example at xmas time they offer deals... the regular contracts (eg. from their websites) are not as good as the ones they offer as specials.

Check out the new Virgin mobile plans . . . depending on use, they could really work well and there's no contract.

I was with Telus for 5 years. Their phones sucked, their coverage was shitty and their service was shittier...
I recently switched to Rogers and I have a better plan, better phone, better coverage and their service has been awesome.

I looked at Virgin, but their phones kinda suck and it is pay as you go.
