Looking for some input, what would you add or remove from the website I have done. Keep in mind this is a demo site and is not done.

    Original, not my work:
    http://www.splashcar.ca

Demo site, I will be adding some flash media to it:

Your site is 10 billion times better. Good layout and organization.

    Nice work!

      Re: Opinion

Well, first of all, the big 'refinshing' isn't spelled correctly, but I'm sure you'd have caught that. The text needs editing too. Ok, so now I'm done being an a-hole! I like the simplicity of the layout. All the info is where it should be - the services offered are listed and clear. A more dynamic vehicle pic would be nice . . . the BMW is nice, but boring (not the car, the pic). What about smooth fenders, clean chrome, or anything angular? I know a very good photographer in Calgary if you ever need one.

      cheers

        Re: Opinion

Yeah spelling is not my thing, nor am I writing the content... so it is just filler right now.

I have a few friends (my brother guys to ACAD) that are in Photography, but PM his e-mail address and I will see.

My major issue with my site is the dead space to the right on the page.

          Re: Opinion

I didn't look at the writing as you said it was still demo.

I think the whitespace you have on the right side is a good thing, not a bad thing. Too many sites try to cram too much into a single page that design goes out the window. Keep that space.

My only other suggestion would be to really increase the size of any of your photos. With them being so small (I'm thinking of the autobody ones) it's hard to tell if it's smoke and mirrors or quality work. The pic is there for a reason, it better tell a story.

I've got a PDF of his biz card somewhere . . . i'll send you the info either way. He works for the Sun and freelances too. I'm sure I could get you a 'preferred rate' of some kind.

I see what you mean about the dead space. It's a little awkward, but waaaay better than crowding. Dead space can be your friend

Maybe you could move the 'Custom Auto Refinishing' under the main title in small font and insert some kind of wider banner in its place and centre the main text. You'd probably have to come down a bit with the top banner to give it some breathing room and I'm not sure what you've got to play with. Voila, dead space taken care of and the page would still look clean. It'd be a PITA to move everything, but I'm just brainstorming here.

I figured you were just stuffing, but I had to mention the spelling or that'd make me a prick . . . especially if your client hit the roof over it! I'm not a web designer, but I've done editorial layout in the past.

I agree dead space is better than clutter. Very nice and crisp. The layout is good. The pic of the bimmer would be better if it did not have those ugly buildings behind it. The car is ok just shoot it someplace else, or photochop out the buildings. What does the client want? Because that is what really matters.

less dead space more clutter. So that is what he is going to get! I have learned after doing this for 4 years just to do what they want.

                      Re: Opinion

It looks like you've already got some really good feedback. The only thing I would add is that the photograph looks awkward with the horizontal line of the 2 different blues dissecting it halfway. It should fit on the darker blue header background.

And change the mouseover text on the main page so that when somebody hovers over a photo they get a short description.

I am a huge fan of whitespace on websites. I think the left and right areas with no content are great. People are getting larger and larger monitors, and the eye can't really take in everything at once, so why force them to try? Content from edge to edge is like watching an Imax movie from the first row, no chance you'll really catch everything.

Ain't that the truth! Sometimes something looks like crap and you know it, but the client loves it, so roll with it (i'm not saying your design is crap, just makin' a point)

Well I am about to show the new updated site, which I really do not like at all. There are some problems that I really have just not dealt with, eg: The flash movie has not been optimized for the internet.

                            Here it is:
                            http://68.146.102.92:8080/demo_sites.../indextest.htm

PLEASE post some really good Flash websites, that use both static HTML and Flash media to drive the website. I am looking for some ideas on what to give this guy. This better be a good paint job I get out of the deal!

I noticed that it's been tweaked! I like the element of animation that you added to the pics . . . otherwise I don't really look at them. Good job. If your client is happy, then that's all that matters. So, is your idea to go with a design that you're not crazy about, but your client loves, and then sex it up with some flash? That's a good plan . . . they're going to get a shot of creativity whether they like it or not!!! I love it.

I'll post some links to some good flash sites later.
