I've been out of the game for a while, but ORION stuff used to be awesome. I think it would be quite versatile. I have no idea on how old it is or anything but i dare say it's probably a good deal.
ya, with amps it doesnt really matter how old they are, they keep on keepin' on (espically the good quality ones)
I had a 1200w clarion in my accord..I bought the amp for $150 at cash converters because it was broken, brought it in to that electronics shop by southland and he replaced a couple parts (totaling 11 dollars) and I was back in biz! Amp was worth 1200usd new hahah

Awesome amp: yes Practical: no
Ihave a old orion hcca225 and I know they are very sold amps.
BUt really look at the size of that thing and the power output will create many problems. First off you will need to run zero gauge power wire (very expencive), upgrade battery and possible alternator, find a place you mount it in your trunk then find a sub that can handle the power (again major $$) and last off you will have a major bass heavy car unless you spend some major coin on high end speakers for the rest. To me that is a SPL only amp, nice to have but could be money well spent elseware.

I would actually run 2x 350 rms subs off this amp, rather than just one. In a Jetta I think the rear seats and deck muffle the sound from the trunk more than in a golf, and a single 10" may not be loud enough for some people. Finding two subs of those specs is no problem.
I agree you will need to run 0 or 1 gauge wire but I would say you can probably get away with the battery and alternator....
looks good, but has no gain i wonder how much extra that is ?
No remote gain, no big deal it is just a logrithmic pot on some wire. Another thing to point out is that an a/b type amp is not all that efficient to run subs so that amp will be power hungery, but feed it right and it will pound like no ones business.

I was wondering about the power drain on the car. I just want something that is going to power 2x12". Sounds like the orion will be to much money when I am all done for what I want.
The newer alpine v12's are pretty nice. I installed a 1000watt powering 2 12" type rs in a buddies truck and it worked out well. Another nice thing is the little black box you can buy for them, you can remotely set all the gain and crossover parameters off all the amps you have tied to it, pretty slick.
