  • Opinion, Graduated Advanced Drivers

This topic kind of ties in with the speeding tickets. Because so many newer cars are capable of good handling and being safe at higher speeds I feel we are being suppressed behind the wheel. What if you took an advanced drivers course and had an inspection on your car to prove to the authorities that it is safe for > 20k posted highway speeds? If we had a class 5 A licence and our cars were inspected to be "A+" certified. We would then have a decal on the licence plate or a new plate showing the A+ status if you will.

I have some hypothetical questions about a advanced drivers licence.
If you could take a course to have an advance drivers status how much be would be willing to pay?
What is a fair price to have your car inspected?
How much over the posted highway speed would be enough?

Any other discussion or suggestions are welcome.

Would never fly, some people would take that sort of thing WAY too far and ruin it for everyone

ahah i thought of that before many times, only thing that may work out is if insurance companies recognized your "race" license, then they can offer such drivers to keep their insurance premiums the same, no matter how many speeding tickets they get, but the cop letting you go, probably not.

In light of one of my friends sisters being kill only 12 weeks ago thanks to a guy going to fast there is NO way I would support something like this. There is a speed limit for a reason.

Another note: its not some much that I am worried about what someone with an "advanced" license would do, it is the guy next to you that could turn into a car going 140 or something.

The most dangerous things happen when there is a big speed differential, I mean look at the havok that a slow drive ron deerfoot can cause.

Montana got along just fine for years without one. In the city - Yes, there should be one but it should be a min:100 max:120 sort of thing on deerfoot (like you see in the states)

yeah I agree with a min/max. But not a Advanced Drivers that lets a select group of people go 150 on deerfoot

min/max would never work on deerfoot. people don't understand the concept of slow drivers keep right.

I am not a fan of the idea. Driving is not about just one person in his or her car. There are plenty of good reasons for speed limits, not just the vehicle or the driver.

Headlights only illuminate so far ahead,
Black ice is black ice at any speed,
Unfortunately people just don't pay enough attention (we are all guilty),
Deer, plywood and lawnchairs (speaking of deerfoot) don't recognize your advanced licence and therefore won't get out of the way any faster

I agree with the licence point put out in the first post.....But, that being said, a few things would have to be implemented for that to work......First being no trucks in the left lane...works great in europe, no semis can travel in the left lane, for obvious reasons, they are too slow....second, no passing on the right hand side, I do this all the time only because I have to, so if its enforced, people would better understand a multi lane highway with increasing progression in speed as you move to the left....and third, "flash to pass" would have to become known....I would love to pull up behind someone, give 2 quick taps of the high beams, and that person would move over..as an act of courtesy though, kinda like a tap on the shoulder and an "excuse me"..right now people see it as too much of an ******* move.....Anyhow, I support it because of the amount of driver training I went through with my career, I drive a fricken cube van faster and harder through corners with more evasive action than I'm allowed to in my car, and you just guess which one handles better......

Coming from someone that has to do the dirty work of the aftermath of unskilled drivers making mistakes, this post holds merit. This is exactly my point police and emergency responders already hold this special licence that I am suggesting and they are driving heavy American made cube vans and Crown Victoria Police Cars.
