  • Fiber glass eh!

Well today was the day I started my sub box mod for my car... the idea is to fiber glass my 12" subs on the inside of my trunk (that was the idea). Well it went all right, but if air bubbles make is a really weak surface I am screwed! For anyone that is thinking of doing this here are some tips:

    1) Get LOTS of glues and paint brushes
    2) Cut the paint brushes down to 2cm - 3cm in length
    3) Cut the fiber glass in small-medium squares
    4) Have lots of time

Did you do it like that website I sent you? I also use the cheapest brushes I can find as they are junk afterwards. You also should only do one or two layers at a time, let dry for 4-6 hours, sand and put another layer one. About 6 -8 layers should be good.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Yup it is just like the website, not sure what I am going to do now as I don't know if I want to do both subs on one side like you did or 1 on each side. We will see...

I think the resin killed my last 2 years of school... feeling a slow today.

A good resperator is going to be your best friend in the world then, I would never have gotten through 3 months of doing it without it.

Where is the best place to get fiber glass resin? I have been told you can get a lot of it cheap.

I have purchased the chopped fiber mat, resin and hardener from a place called Industrial Plastics, They sell latex gloves there aswell, they make for quick clean-up. It is in builders Park in the SE.

Well those prices arean't all that great, aren't 1gallon ones 45$ at crappy tire?
I have some scap mdf around that you can have, but I am hoping you aren't telling me you haven't made the wood frame already? Because if you haven't you just created a world of more work. Build up a wood frame to aporx airspace you need then glass the contours you need don't try to do it the other way around as then it is a lot harder to combine the two.

how much MDF do you have?

really not sure what I am going to do now, I dont know if I cam going to do the 2 subs in one place (like your car) or one on each side... I am picking up the MDF for my side walls today. Having fiber glass first should not make any difference for the way that I think I am going to do it.

                            crappy tire: $39.99
