        Re: Where do you work…

To add my two cents about accounting (I never thought I'd say that!) I can tell you that my father, an FCGA and past-president of CGA Ontario, wrote the UFE (exam to get his CA) several years back, and has now become very involved with the CA organization.

There's got to be some logic behind his decision.

Although, I wouldn't put too much stock in my opinions. I work in communications, give me words over numbers any time. Mmmm... words...

Words? I bet you're one of those geeks who plays on the Scrabble circuit and knows a bunch of seven letter words like poesied or ziganka.

Heather... I know what you mean. I love writing, and did my degree in communications (written & oral... not hi-tech) at UofC. As nerdy as it sounds, I actually like writting essays and papers.

What do you do in the field of communications? It's an industry that I had no luck in breaking into during my job hunt; so I moved towards a business role (my minor), where more opportunties were available. My dream job would be combining both Business and Communications in some sort of Analyst role, but I don't like my chances.

                  Liquid,
Ever thought about entering the marketing field? As a marketing student I know for a fact that a lot of us aren't very creative, either that or are not great writers (myself excluded ). I've spoken to several people from both marketing and communications and communications people can do pretty well in advertising/marketing.

If you like writing then it offers also a lot more creative freedom than a lot of fields out there, and with your background in business I'm sure you could probably do pretty well in it. Just a thought...

That's exactly the type of role I was looking for during my job search, however no real opportunities presented themselves. I never got call-backs in regards to positions of that nature. The typical lack of experience thing bit me.

If the right opportunity opens up in that field I would most certainly jump at the chance though. (If you know of any, feel free to let me know ) I however, am one of those guys who enjoys going to school and learning.... so regardless of my position, I'll probably start my CGA anyway.

Tintin, let's just say that I can rely on much more creative words than "zinc" to unload that "z" tile.

Liquid, I work in a consulting firm right now doing a mix of internal and external communications. Starting next Monday I've been seconded to an oil and gas company to do internal change communications on a major project. In Ontario I did media relations and worked as a photojournalist. Ideally I hope to end up in political communications. I'll let you know when I make the leap, since that will leave my communications analyst position open for you.

Gaffer, entomology is so cool. I have a huge crush on Grissom from CSI. Well hey, I can't believe I just admitted that.
