3web Internet service?? Opinions?

I've been recieving lots of phonecalls lately from this 3 web company, aparently there is deregulation of Internet service providers?? I've been looking at thier website (www.3web.com), and thier rates are very competitive, as well as connection speed options (256K, 3Mbps, 5Mbps), and bundled long distance.....I'm curious if anyone else has looked at this, or even has signed up already?? I'm with Telus now, so you would think that they would modify thier service to equal competitors soon.......

ehhh i've been with shaw for over 5 years now since the @home days and i'll stay with them.. good enough service LOL.. and awesome speeds

How much bandwidth do you get per month? They don't list that on the page.

I have had Shaw forever, and have never once had a problem with service. No point in changing now.

kris thats my concern too.. i've already pushed 97gig down this month with shaw and they never call me i easily do 50+gig down a month and i don't get called at all

3web is paying shaw for their internet, and reselling it to you.

Ahh, I see....I looked into it more, and not too interested, have to buy the modem, have to buy the software, etc. No limit on bandwidth....

No limit? Hmmm sounds suspicious... if that is true, that is reason enough to switch.

I did 100+ gb up for 2 months in a row, on the third month I was about 60gb in and they shut off my connection for 2 days (shaw)..now I live in the boonies where I have sat. internet which is garbage and you pay thru the teeth for B/W

edit: That was after numerous emails and a phonecall to which I blamed the problem on spyware

Shaw logs all bandwidth and will hand over info to athorities without a court order, ie ther turn over fast then a $2 hooker, where as Telus has the ability to monitor bandwidth but doesn't give a damn and will not turn over info even with a court order unless it is very high up (yet to happen). That info was from someone high up with shaw btw.

Yeah Telus has complained to me about some of the content I download, but I talked to a manager and basically they will never release information to anyone without a court order... which is awesome since people like the MPAA and RIAA sometimes like to bully people.

well the thing is the stuff i'm leeching is off shaws lan so maybe they don't care i dunno i've never gotten bugged ever on it..

ps.. no upload.. this isn't 1995 ratio ftps.. and bittorent can eat my ........

Its all perference, if telus wants to they will dime you out in a heartbeat. I know guys who work at shaw, and I work with three guys who previously worked at shaw so I know exactly how slack they are...espically if you get a biz package, that's basically unlimited.

Personally, I find that telus speeds are s**t compared to shaw overall. The company I work for has about 400 stores across canada and all of them use DSL or Cable depending on the area and I've found the DSL pipes to be a significant amount slower than whatever shaw's using (big pipe? It's a DS-3 whatever it is)

Also, with shaw you can get "true" static IP's. The telus bundles are dynamic IPs that only change once in a blue moon, but then you can't call it static, can you?!

You can now view your bandwidth on the telus page, they just made that part accessable, I sure DL less than I thought! I've never had problems with content either, but then again, I'm now purchasing MP3's through allofmp3.com for .02c per Mb
