I like the "sound" of Theory of a defaultback or whatever they're called but the issue is once they get put into the "Pop template" they become very plain and unoriginal.
Once? haha they already are

I know, that's what I meant. They write songs, then they get manipulated into a "Pop template" and they become boring and unoriginal. Maybe that's how they wrote them but there's been bands that used to have good songs but once they started getting lots of radio play you could tell that the format and lyrics and just about all aspects of the song are different from the first album for example.
Once upon a time when I was working on a demo I had to choose between "radio play" and "non radio play" type editing. Basically they take what you've written and edit it down to what fits for radio (3.5 minutes, vocals within 20 seconds, chorus within 45 seconds, etc.)
Defenitely check out the Deloused In The Comatorium (The Mars Volta) It is way more accessable than Frances The Mute, and the songs are a reasonable length which makes listening to it in the car alot easier.
As for Audioslave, I find that their new CD is just more of the same, only worse... I downloaded it, and then deleted it about 1/2 hour later.
You might want to check out the new Foo Fighters CD (it isn't out yet, but it has been leaked onto OINK).

Ok, I'll check out the other Mars Volta album. I kinda figured the new audioslave was going to be dissapointing, to me it sounded like they were kinda mellowing out a bit more too.
And Foo Fighters for sure, I've always liked their stuff.
Well picked up the new Coldplay and new Finch this week both pretty good still want to go through them a few more times. I have listened to a fair bit of the new Foo Fighters and I find it boring, uninspired and pretty much the same stuff all over again.
For some other stuff I have been checking out The Dead 60s, Plain White Ts and Moving Units. I am also a big fan of the new Esthero track "We R In Need of a Musical Revolution" which expresses a nice point of view:
"I am so sick and tired of the sh*t on the radio
MTV they only play the same thing
No matter where I go I see Ashanti in the video
I want something more...."
