You made a new thread! Welcome to the club boards.

As I mentioned over in the other message, the biggest difference you'll see in looks will come from lowering the car, or from new wheels.

When lowering the car you really have two options, either a spring/shock kit which runs at about $700 bucks to start, or Coilovers for about double that. The difference is that Coilovers are adjustable in height, but give a slightly harsher ride. Lowering your VW will always result in a bumpier ride, so you would need to decide if this is worth it to you. Going for a ride in someone else's lowered car is a good way to help decide.

Wheels will always make a dramatic difference, but they are going to be expensive. Basically the more you spend the better the car will look. On a new model Golf/Jetta/Passat you would probably want 18 or 19 inch wheels.

After wheels and/or suspension, you could start thinking about body parts. For the most unique styling you would want to look at full body kits which include different front and rear bumpers with sideskirts, and sometimes a front grill or spoiler. You mentioned C-Town's car in your other post, he has the Oettenger body kit and it makes his car look awesome.

Other parts that people often change are tail-lights or headlights, antenna, and side markers/indicators. Although these parts are cheaper, they probably won't be as noticable except to yourself and other enthusiasts.

You can order all kinds of parts from Boy Racer, one of our club members who runs his own business and can beat most prices.

Edit: Oh yeah, there are also mods you can do to the interior such as a stereo or the navigation systems Bart sells...

        Re: Newbie Needs Help

Im not too interested in lowering my car but a body kit would be nice..Also not intrested in puttin a nav system in it because there isnt enought room, i have a theory on nav systems people put in their cars..most of the time it doesnt look good its just sittin out and in the way..now like in the is 300's how it pops out from on top the dash if i could do something like that i would. I was thinkin about 18's after i saw C-Towns lol i was leaning for 18's because I thought 19's would be too big but his car is flawless so it doesnt matter. Im thinkin about a new paint job because that blue is nastee looking I want either black or red. I also have a little dillema with the location I dont kno where I can get a good paint job. Someone reccomended MAACO to me ..thats SAD..Im from Vegas so im use to places like west coast customs being all over but out here in MD its just so BLAH so I might have to drive for a nice paint job. But thanks for the ideas..oh and I like the idea of having little things done that only i would notice!!

                  Re: Newbie Needs Help

Have you done any performance mods? I'd spend my money on those first because i'd get the most enjoyment out've them, but that's just me.

If you are thinking about performance I would recommend doing chip and turboback exhaust for sure then down the line adding little things if you are going to stick with the stock turbo. You can find more about peformance mods here, 18Turbo I found it very helpful when I was new to the VW scene.
