  • I bought a new toy too!

Alex's post got me thinkin' I should post up about my new toy. I sold my Canon Digital Rebel and bought somethin' new... quite a bit of a step up...

I bought the new Canon 20D and the additional battery/vertical grip that you see it pictured here with. Got a few other goodies like a cable release and an awesome new Lowepro camera backpack... oh and a new lens that is incredibly kick-ass

That's the Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8 L - it's some pretty expensive glass, but (hopefully) worth the money.

I still haven't taken any shots yet because I'm waiting for my damn flash card to arrive! I ordered a Lexar 1GB 80x.

I could have done some SERIOUS upgrades to the ole GTI for the amount I spent on this, but these days my money goes to supporting my creative side.

Re: I bought a new toy too!

I will definitely be down to WoW and taking some shots.

As for what I'll be doing with it, pretty much everything. I have done some event photography before and recently did a wedding - and did yearbook photography for many years. Basically for now though I'm looking to build up my equipment (while I have a good paying job) so that one day, if I want to concentrate more on photography (like as a job), I can do that without worrying about buying a whole bunch of equipment (as I probably wouldn't be getting paid too much, if anything).

There are a few more things on the list of stuff to buy for it. I'm going to get:

              Canon 580EX Flash
              Canon EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 Zoom Lens
Canon EF 70-200 f/4 L Lens (this lens kicks major ass)

Yes, the IS lenses are very nice indeed, but isn't available on too much yet. The 24-70 I got didn't have an IS version, and even if they did god only knows how much it would have costed and weighed. I'm addicted to "L" series glass.

The 70-200 comes in an IS version, but only with the f/2.8 version, and it's $2800, so I won't be getting that anytime soon. The f/4 L is only about $1000. Just as sharp, and only 1 stop slower.

Sounds like you know a little about this stuff... are you a photographer too?

Well the basically all have MIDI, but Roland makes some pretty sweet digital pianos, as does Yamaha. They are probably the best 2 names that you can get, and they both produce keyboards with stunning piano sounds. There is a mind boggling array of models to choose from, it really depends on what you're looking for. Does he want it to look like a piano (they have digital grand pianos, etc.), or look like a home digital piano, or look like a stage digital piano? See what I mean... the funny thing is that they essentially all have the same keybeds and sound generators so it's basically just the way it looks.

                            Here's a few links:

Roland Digital Pianos (of all those ones I'm a fan of the RD-700SX and RD-300SX - they were just announced a few days ago

Yamaha Digital Pianos - there is a crazy huge amount of different models

A store I would suggest going to if you want a simple digital piano is Irene Besse Keyboards. They are down by the old Costco.
