  • Drive in a 92 Turbo Civic?? so shoot me!

Yeah, and I liked it......here's the deal, its a '92 civic, 1.5L 4 banger, with a total home brew turbo setup consisting of a AirResearch/Garrett T3 turbo, FMIC, Greddy BOV, Hondata fuel management, running 7-8psi....Apparently quite cheap overall, but the turbo is tired and in need of replacement sometime in the future....Anyhow, to the real meat of it all, he liked my car, and I took him for a rip, he was impressed by the low end torque, and the flat feeling torque curve, overall drivability....In return, he took me, and I wasn't expecting much, but it blew me away! Sure, you gotta rev it to 3500-4000 before the boost kicks, but when it does holy shat, that car was GONE....power to weight I'm sure has something to do with it, and yeah, it was a civic, but hey whereelse can you buy a cheap early 90s car, put 1500 bucks into it, and get that real peaky thrill??? So like I said, shoot me, I love my torque, but damn to play that car had all the fun!

Who wouldnt want a nimble, quick, inexpensive car?

Eventually I would like to have a 2nd car like your friend's. A mk1 vw with a motor swap of some sort would be my first choice, but who knows.

what year did the Honda blocks start being made from aluminum -- so they require sleeving prior to 'safely' turbocharging?

My wife's '95 civic sure could use a turbo

I thought they might appreciate the praise, cheap go fast! On the other hand, we've seen what overzealous enthusiasts can do

Actually, I am not a VW-zealot at all, I like any well made car.

My brother and I have talked about doing a civic, engine-swap and turbo for him next fall.

One problem with the civics is that the information is harder to find... there are like 1000 engines people often swap... and lots of misinformation and terrible ricer forums to sort through!

Ohh that is for sure, it took 5 months rather then the 2 weeks he thought it would. He did get screwed around from the place in town he bought the engine from, first he got damaged drive shafts then after months of troubleshooting found they gave him an auto ECU

I would never shout a person down for riding in a Civic that's been tastefully modified, I like Honda. I'd love to take a small light car and put a cool engine in it VW, Honda or otherwise.

Actually, Something I've always wanted to do was put a supercharger (among other things) into an older miata. They are cheap, VERY light, and rear wheel drive. I think if you got one up to 200Hp it would be an amazing machine. The only thing is, it is physically difficult for me to get in one! haha.

Miata's are supposed to be 50/50 weight distro, are they not? Makes them awesome little track cars if you can stand to be seen in one

yea I think they will always be seen as "chick cars" or "mid life crisis cars". But I think they would just be a really good base, if you had lots of time and money. I have time, just have to figure out the money thing.
