  • Jon Stewart!

Here's a link to a video of Jon Stewart of the "Daily Show", cutting up the media's integrity on CNN's Crossfire. Stewart is hilarious, and obviously quite bright.... check it out.

I watch the Daily Show... uh... daily... and it's awesome. I've seen this clip already and it's very interesting to see him speaking honestly about something he obviously cares about.

If you check out www.ifilm.com they have both Jon Stewart's apperance on Crossfire, and you can watch his rebuttal on the Daily Show the Monday afterward. They are both in the top ten clips.

Jon Stewart has got to be one of the funniest guys out there and his show is hilarious. The best is when he tells the hosts of Crossfire that he will not be thier funny monkey, and the one guy that he is a dick.

I've heard a few people talking about this, and I finally watched the clip... I don't get it. Stewart didn't offer anything even remotely insightful other than "Bush's record doesn't match his record" or "The media needs to ask harder questions". Sure it was sort of funny to watch him bash the hosts but he didn't offer anything other than weak insults.

I mean Bill Maher seems more articulate... Or do I just need to watch his show?

Geoff, I think you just need to watch his show. He relies on wit and sarcasm, but brings some great points to the forfront. He's no dumbie, that's for sure.... but "the daily show" isn't meant to be hard-line journalism anyhow. He basically just feels that mainstream media has become a place for politicians and their spin doctors to "slap" each other around..... and trade useless rhetoric. Sounds pretty accurate to me.

He also spotlights the media's (in this case Crossfire's) role as a propaganda tool to further nominee discourse and bashing between the electoral parties. The beauty in this spot is not so much his insightful commentary, but rather the fact that he is downsizing the role of Crossfire as a legitimate debate platform, to a mere pawn manipulated by candidates in the presidential campaign battle. Basically undermining everything that the show and it's hosts stand for...... good stuff

                      Re: Jon Stewart!

Jon Stewart bills his show as "the most trusted name in fake news". The humor lies in the exchange between Crossfire hosts who are supossedly a legitimate news show getting all bent out of shape arguing with a guy who admits he is a comedian.

It takes some major balls to go on a show he said blows and tell the hosts to their faces.

I think that Stewart is about the only guy in mainstream American media who is willing to come out & tell people that the Ameriacan election is all about posturing, media whoring, and spin doctoring. Hopefully he will open the minds of a few people in the process to show them how ridiculous America is in things like thier election, foriegn policy, the war in Iraq etc, etc, etc.

He is brilliant in my mind.

60 minutes had an interview with Jon Stewart last night. He is a very intelligent and extremely funny guy, I am glad there are still some people around that have the guts to say what they think, America needs more people like him!!

I thought it was funny that almost every canidate and politician has had the guts to go on his show except G.W. Bush, that would be a show not too miss!

I wish I would have seen that, from what I heard it was pretty good. Jon Stewart is also going to have an election special on the night of the election, Nov. 2 I think. It should be good for a few laughs.

                            Re: Jon Stewart!

I thought it was great, I loved how he referred to it as theatre pointing out the guys tie. I mean really that's what it is. And that's what CNN is. I'm sorry but all they ever show is blood and guts and bombs and shooting and scandal. If the amount of coverage dictates stat of society, we'd all have bullet proof cars and shoot anyone that approaches us.

This will sound very broad and uneducated, but News is a joke, it's about ratings like everything else, the sad thing is, people believe a lot of what they see.

Edit: I may have to find his site and send an email, no one has the guts to do that anymore, he's right, shows like that don't do any good, they just hurt society.

I totally agree with you that for-profit news agencies will do whatever it takes to get you to view, which taints and discredits their objective coverage of issues. This is why I believe in not-for-profit TV like the CBC, BBC and PBS. I think The National on CBC is one of the best news programs on the air, and I've heard similar good things about the BBC. I would like to see no comercials though during news broadcasts, not because I don't like comercials (which I don't), but because then there isn't the possibility of advertisers excercising control over the editorial content of the program.

Unfortunately, I think some of the Canadian networks are doing news like the Americans. You don't need to look any further than Global National for this. That whole broadcast is all about shocking you into watching.

Edit: now that I think about it, CBC isn't exactly "not-for-profit", but as it's primarily paid for by tax payers, I think my point still stands.
