  • Reformat/XP question

So here's the deal, my laptop is suffering badly from neglect, running slow, overloaded with crap I don't need....I've decided to reformat, and start over, but beingmy first laptop, I have a few questions.....

    1. I've misplaced my XP CD, if I "purchase" another, is it a bootable CD with a blank HD?? (ie: start up in the installation not needing startup files)

    2. are there any quirks to a laptop that are different from a desktop system when reformatting?

    3. I only have 700MB CD's, and I have had XP on them before, but all the XP's I see are like 1.4gig, compressed with RAR or similar, but not self unpacking....how do I get around this??

If I come up with more, I'll let you know....Thanks in advance for the help!

XP CD's are bootable however if you have a "backup copy" it may not be bootable, depending on how it was made. Also some CD drives do not like to boot CD's. Just pop it in and try it.

There are no real quirks with a notebook except that you may need to visit the web site of your notebook manufacturer to get drivers for the different features if they are not auto-detected by windows XP.
