VW puts 18's on the golf and jetta from the factory, so there is really no reason not to run them yourself. I don't think you will notice a ride quality problem.

The only possibly difference would be wheel weight, since heavier wheels hurt acceleration. However, you can get light 18's that weight less than heavy 17's.

19's on the other hand are a bit of a saccrifice and also more expensive, especially for tires and for lighter wheels in the 19" size. I wish my axis were lighter. They are like lead.

I put my 300ZX twin turbo away yesterday. The Golf will keep it's 17" shoes on until we get more snow. Then it'll be in winter beater mode. Bare, just below freezing pavement is the #1 way to f**k up blizzaks and other soft winter tires.

                          Re: Ack snow!

Word to the wise - do NOT drive in snow on 225/40/18 Michelin Pilot Sports. I had to abandon my plans of driving my car to my friend's house as I could barely stop and anything over 30km/h and I would be sliding all over the place.

But on the other hand, my steelies look like ass :( I think I might see what the weather's going to be like this week before I decide to put on the snow tires.

Yeah, it was pretty icey in Hidden Valley, but 14th st was just really wet. Nevertheless I drove my GTI today, and will be doing so everyday for the next few months.

Not necessarily a bad thing as I love the GTI almost as much as the Jetta, it just sucks because I never got to clean her up good (the Jetta that is) for storage. Now I just have to spend a couple of hours on the garage floor tonight replacing my front brakes and e-brake cables in the GTI. DOH!

                                Re: Ack snow!

I have not had time to put my 15s on yet as they still have Simon L's R compounds on the wheels. So today I drove the VR with Toyo T1-s to work and I have to say it was not all that bad, I was very careful on the side streets and I had really no problem braking it was starting that proved to be more difficult and in the wet they are very good. I have driven on pilot sports in snow and they are by far much worse. That being said I will be switching at some point and I can at least put Nokians on Simons diesel and drive that if need be.
