OK, there is lots of interest in modded Xbox's, and of course there are a few on here that have them......I'm a noob at Xbox modding, I did PSx stuff, so I'm curious what you guys are using for setups, ie: HDD size, dashboard, actual mod, EvoX? Plus, what it cost you......I know this borders legality, but of course we all use this to back up our own games......................................Lets hear it ladies...

Anyway, i got mine to work, EvoX chip and 120gb HD. I have a little switch setup so I can turn the chip on and off whether I want to play backed up games locally, or play LIVE games with the CD in.Simon

Re: Modded Xbox: seperate thread
I bought an xbox just to mod it - for videos/tv show etc. The Xecuter 2.6 and the Xenium Ice seem good and most of them are entirely legal now. The only illegal part of modding the Xbox was modifying the Microsoft bios, but since most chips now provide their own it's ok. Still, avoid mentioning bios download locations on the forum.
I'm going to get either a 120 or a 160 drive (but you have to mod the xbox first THEN change the drive) - the question is whether to get the 7200 rpm drive or go with a quieter 5400. Also, I don't know if the Xbox benefits from the 8meg cache drives.

And for size, depends on how many games/movies you wanna back up, I got a 120 and I've used 30 of it so far after a week. I think I probably should have gone with a 140 or 160, as thats just 10-15 more games I could hold, but I'm perfectly fine for now.

oh, and I'm definately getting a screen for my car so I can watch movies/familyguy episodes/dvd's on roadtrips. Another great perk about the modded xbox, is that it negates the need for having the DVD Playback kit ($60), so you save yourself tons of money that way too.Last edited by Simon; 09-16-2004, 08:34 PM.Simon

Re: Modded Xbox: seperate thread
I am not really a gamer, but is there a way to mod an Xbox so that it acts like a PVR? If so, is one able to set record times etc?

Re: Modded Xbox: seperate thread
try and get a 5400rpm drive, it will run a lot cooler. 7200rpm drives last only if they are fan cooled.
I see much bigger drives are supported now, it (executer) used to onlu support drives to 80 GBput.......put.......

But a lot of people record the shows on their PCs with an ATI all in wonder or something, then transfer the video files to the xbox (automatically if you're good). The latest cable boxes have harddrives for recording shows - that's the way to go if you don't game.
