  • Speeding ticket advice

Well as some of you know, I was the unfortunate victim of one of Calgary's Police Constables, and more specifically, his radar gun. I have been rodgered with a $264 ticket that is due on the 24th, and I'm not too fond of the idea of paying it.

I've already pursued one somewhat dubious avenue in order to remedy this situation, but it didn't work out as planned. So now I'm stuck and wanted to pick your brilliant brains for any ideas to get out of this ticket.

The money isn't my biggest concern - it's the demerits. I was clocked going 100 in a 60 zone (so he claims) and I don't really think I could stroll into the court and expect to get it knocked down on its own. So any thoughts on what I could do?

I've already considered simply not paying it, but as much as the idea of being an 'outlaw' is appealing (girls love them bad boys), I really don't think it would be wise in the long run.

Anyway, thanks for reading my rant and any help that is offered i would 'preash.

    C.

The CP will probably still bargain - can't hurt. Just ask for it to be a registered owners ticket as all they are after is the money.

I certainly wouldn't mess with a speedometer for such a small ticket - save that for if you ever get a careless/wreckless/50 over ticket.

Most insurance companies also give you 1 freebie speeding ticket a year before bumping rates as everyone gets one sooner or later.

Hey man! You only gotta evade the "po" for 7 years and then your no longer an outlaw..My buddy's coke-head brother has been gettin pulled over all the time and telling the cops that he is my buddy so the guy (peter, non-coke-head..not the same peter your thinkin ) has a bunch of warrants for his arrest..I got pulled over with him in the ride and he got a seatbelt ticket and the cop said nothing about warrants..

But like the above post says, they only want your money! Just go say you dont want your insurance rates to go up because they are high enough as it is and you have no issue paying the fine cause you were in the wrong...Just tell it like it is, they read ********

Most of what has been said is pretty accurate. If you can prove your speedo was a little off, that will help. However, if you plea bargain to pay it if they take off the demerits..... they might do it. Hate to say it, but it really depends on the guys mood.

I was doing a 94 in a 50. Went to court and they knocked half of the ticket and demerits off. I tried to get all demerits off but the judge was saying If i went 6 more i wouldnt be driving. I have a court date in October 24 i believe. I was doing 118 in a 80. Im just gonna plea with the prosecutor and pay the fine with no demerits before my date.

Yeah, don't not pay it....you don't wanna hang out at the arrest processing unit, trust me...............Calgary is quite cruel to evaders.....At least have it knocked down to photo radar style to save the demerits at court....

Don't go "to court" just talk to the prosecutor a few days beforehand, he will make you a great deal. Really unbelievably nice guy.

I haven't had to fight one yet, but you get there early (before 9:30) and you line up with the rest of the poor bastards. Maybe an hour or so depending on how busy?

Here's a quote from a guy on beyond:

As far as what you do goes. Go in and wait in the line to speak to a "justice of the peace" They will ask you if you want to plead guilty and pay or speak to a Crown Prosecutor for advice and or reduction. If you choose to fight the ticket, you proceed to wait in the long line up of three or four rooms containing Crown Prosecutors. The one that gets your file will call you in. Explain yourself, and see the outcome. Dont be an idiot, and things should be ok. Again just like a cop it depends on their mood. Once a decision has been made, you wait one more time usually MUCH faster than the original wait. You then see A final CP and he / she signs off the new fine or maintains the original fine.
