  • It's coming together...

I'm a little bored sooo thought I'd report on the ol' MK3

    Deck is installed, very happy

Exhaust rattle fixed (Another shout out to my forest lawn minute muffler friends ($10 later) ) Looks like I'll hold out on the cat back system (Sorry Simon)

All lights and dummy plates are purchased

Front bumper purchased (Thanks to Montgomery, cheapest one I could find) It's already primed! I wasn't going to buy one, but it'll look so much better and it was cheap.

Now i'm just waiting for another quote on the body work which is turning out to be a lot more than I was expecting (current quote is close to $1000)

So things I'm still needing to find is:

Front Chin (had a look at it today, it's roughed up too)

Seats - This is a high priority item as the drivers side has basically disintegrated.

GTI/Wolfsberg tails - I really want some but people want a little too much for them right now for me to justify, i'm thinking I'll find myself some cheap stock ones and try and tint them myself.

So if anyone's as bored as me, let me know.

You could try and get your current tails paint matched when you bring your bumper to get done. Apparently this can be done although I havent seen any in person.

Interesting...I was thinking of going Dales route of spraying them, i'm just a little nervous about doing that without a spare set around.

Dale didn't spray them, he used tinted 3M material

I did my side markers and turn indicators, it's easy as pie. I sanded mine with some 400 grit to take the shine off, and used Testor's window tint. You can get it at any hobby shop, and it's a translucent black colour. After you get them to the darkness you want, put on a couple coats of clear coat and you're done. If you get them too dark, or have problems with orange peel (one of my coats ended up being too thick), rubbing alcohol will take it all off, and you can start over. With that in mind, the worst that can happen is you run out of alcohol or paint. You can always go back to stock until you put on the clear coat.
