If anyone thinks that buying a house is a nasty affair you should try having one built.

                      WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.

It ranks right up there with paying to see a proctologist and having him use welding gloves.

And then there's people like me that have absolutely no problems at all. I even skipped my 6 month inspection because nothing needed work that couldn't wait till the 1 year. It's all about planning and a bit of luck. I can't see buying an older house myself.

I've had the same experience. 2 years in the Ridge and all is well. Planning is definately the key. Picking up the errors in the drawings before they are built are prolly the biggest thing.

I hear you, my wife & I built a house last year, the biggest purchase of my life, and they totally screw you over. It was hands down the most stressful period of my life. Even the most planning & thinking was not enough to counteract the stupidity of my salesman, site supervisor and trades who worked on my house. Now I laugh everytime I see an ad for my builder. Their slogan should be changed to "My home, my way...my ass"

I really think the primary problem is that there are too many houses being built, and too few qulaified trades available. As well, the price of the house is a lot of money to me, but $200,000+ is not alot to a builder, so they dont really see how it can impact the homebuyer.

On the other end though, owning a home, and not renting is a very gratifying experience. Congrats on the new pad

Bah, we've built 2 houses since we moved to calgary. The first one was community home (douglasdale) but our house now is custom built and took 14 months to build. Intricate woodwork and crap like that..pretty sick but it was honestly a full time job trying to keep on their mistakes and make sure its done right..and these guys are the contractors making the huge dollars for doing it, I can't even imagine having Avi or Jayman or whatever build a house like that..Congrats on the purchase, hopefully will be my next as well
