But, I did some reading online here, and I turned up between 45 to 60 hp for drivetrain loss in the WRX, so thats between say 170 and 195 at the wheels if true. I guess 150 could be true... I test drove one years ago and it felt faster too...

The AWD would get you wicked ass launches, but it really weighs down the car from a rolling start. The advantage of an AWD car is that most cars when launched have the tendancy to squat on the rear axel, and since FWD cars are . . . well FWD they lose traction, whereas AWD cars gain traction when they squat on their back axels, its a huge advantage when your drag racing, I reallly feel the difference when I launch in my car, or when Im sitting in my buddies AWD Talon TSI and he lauches, huge difference. The other thing is that when the cars are already moving the AWD capabilities are kind of nulled when going in a straight line, all they do is weigh down the car, therefore in a situation like deerfoot the AWD car would be at a disadvantage when racing a FWD car. Of course cornering and drifting would be alot easier in an AWD car since the back wheels have power. I dont really know where i was going with that . . . but here it is,

Ill edit it when I remember

I looked at turbo kits when I had mine, VERY expensive, plus once I did a little more research I discovered that they have 2 major weak links, the first one is the connecting rods, basically with any kind of boost (more than a couple pounds) you run the risk of bending them. The other major weak link is the tranny, if you mod the car at all you can bet you'll blow through the tranny (the Teckworks guys can talk for days about the 2.5RS). Plus, once the WRX came out any development being done on the 2.5 was basically ditched in favour of tuning the new engine. I also didn't find the 165 was enough for my little 2.5RS, I can't imagine running a heavier car with it.

Anyway, now that I've totally hi-jacked. I like STi's, yea so the the interior isn't super nice and high quality, the money is in the beautiful drivetrain, heh. Plus I've always loved the Boxer engine, mine had a really nice sound. If I lived in the US though and could afford it, I'd go EVOVIII all the way, it seems to be a better car in every way.

I agree the EVO is what I would buy, hands down. There are just so many things I like about it.
