  • STI production

Today my dad and i went to check out the STI at a local subaru dealer because thats the main car im considering now. I was looking at an 01-02 m3 or s4 (bi turbo, screw the new v8), but as for bang for the buck its the STI. I really prefer the exterior styling of the bmw and the audi, but my dad really likes the sti and its not common out here at all. I see alot of m3's and s4's driven by the rich "business men." I figure if i get one from the auction, its probably gonna be a lil beaten on and i really would like a brand new car. Plus at 18-19 years old i dont think i really need an m3, my dad said i wouldnt have much to realistically look forward to after that. Anyway, who knows... i still have about 6 months to a year.

Well the salesman told me that subaru only produced 3500 sti's because it's a "limited edition" and that what each dealer has on the lot, is the last of them. He said "they are only alotted so many." Well, i think thats ********, my friend read an article stating that the sti will have 4,000-5,000 produced annually. The salesman did tell me that they have not announced whether or not they will be producing them in 2005. I think he was just feeding us that ******** so we would purchase faster, because we told him it wuold be at the end of summer, AT the earliest.

Another thing, i told him i only wanted black. Any in Fla and some of GA there are only two black sti's. Naturally, he was like oh silver is a nice color (because thats what he had on the lot). He's like you should go wiht silver or white they are nice. Obviously silver and white arent liked by many because thats all the colors that are mainly at dealers. I personally think it looks like **** with the black and blue seats, but thats just me. If i'm going to spend 30-31k on a car, you can bet its going to be the color i want, regardless of where i have to get it from.

Sorry had to let that frustration out because i just got home. If anybody knows anything that could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm an STI runs us about 48K plus tax here....I was gonna get one, then I shook my head back to reality...its a nice car, but just another subaru (w/ a big price tag), really bad for city driving "I hear", kinda crude you know? But I wouldn't turn one down if I was given one! Go for the R.....why not eh?

I personally know one person in the city who has 2003 sti's thats black, and ive seen another in town here. So they are out there, dealers are really stupid sometimes you really should do your own research when looking to get a car cause the rep probably knows as much information as the back of a cereal box does about the product. They just want to sell. When my sister almost bought a volvo with a turbocharged engine, the dude told me it was running 17 lbs of boost. What an idiot. Yeah check it out, as well as talk to more then just that dude, cause there are good honest sales men out there, you just gotta find em Hope Ive been some help, if you want pm me and ill send you some good sites to do research on the STI's.

I havent heard anything bad about the car from the people i have asked, especially alot of them being more inclined to VW's and such. But ill have to test drive it a few times before now that you bring up the city driving, because i hate bumpy/rough rides. The reason i wont get an r32 is i dont prefer the hatchback over a coupe or sedan, just my personally taste. 30k isnt bad really, just depends. I mean i could go to the auction and fall in love with an m3 thats really cheap. One of my dads partners picked up a 02 turbo audi tt with 15k on it for $9,000. So i just have to have patience, but im a really bad impulse buyer... thats how i ended up with this jetta

I wish VW had cars that produed the same kind of power as the STi. What I really want is an STi engine in a Jetta, cuz IMO Subarus are fugly.

I was actually thinking about something along the lines of this thread the other day. Well, the exact reverse of my post anyway. If Subaru came out with a decent looking vehicle, I think that they could sell a WHOLE LOT more vehicles.

                    Re: STI production

Yeah either subaru comes out with a really nice looking vehicle or VW puts a vehicle out that can perform like the subaru.

MAYBE, just maybe, thats why subaru only made 3500, they realized that car was hideous and need to re-think the exterior styling. haha hey i can keep hoping

hehe, yeah maybe. that would be the right logic on their behalf.

                        Re: STI production

I cross shopped the WRX vs the Jetta and stupid things like no folding rear seats killed it for me.
