Buying a camera

There seem to be some camera savvy people here so hopefully someone can help me out. I want to buy a camera that I can take with me on a roadtrip that is small-ish and takes pretty good quality pictures that I can print and put on a wall if I wanted. I'm tired of poor quality iphone pictures. Looking for recommendations if anyone has experience with certain cameras. Thanks in advance.

I'll recommend a micro 4/3 camera. You can pick up a generation or two old one for a pretty decent price, the basic lens that comes with those is usually decent. You can always grab a situation specific lens after.

I personally like Olympus and use a OMD EM5

Another option is any point and shoot, they all have better picture quality than an iPhone. Even a 10mpx point and shoot should have better picture.

I don't have much experience with the micro 4/3rds but I'll recommend going mirrorless. Look for a Sony a7 mk1 on kijiji, or even a Sony a6000. Should be able to pick one one for cheap and they take great photos.

Small, and great for traveling too.

Mirror-less and 5-axis image stabilization and you can't go wrong.

Here is a good review of the more popular current mirror-less cameras. New releases usually come out starting in August so you could wait and pray on those of us that upgrade often.

Honestly I have the Olympus OMD EM5 too and its pretty big to carry, if I was buying again I would buy a smaller body mirrorless. If you do not plan on making it a hobby but want a vacation camera I'd take a Panasonic GF8 or Olympus PEN-F or similar at half the size/weight and same lens system. If you need a camera that realistically fits in a pocket then don't get caught up in the hype of the big bodies that just make people feel like they are using a DSLR.

I like my EM5, with a Panasonic 14mm lens, it's a void size. With the 15-150 it's a bit big.

I picked up my EM5 body used last year for $400,you can probably get it with the kit lens at that price now.
