  • Kuhmo 712 snow review lol

hrmm so I wake up this morning to head to work and see snow on the roads up in the ridge
So I'm like here we go
Well all of the ridge was pure ice but I stayed in 2nd gear and amazingly made it down the hill and onto crowchild with the help of ESP for the corner doing about 5km/hr LOL and just missing the ditch
well crowchild was the same and pure ice.. well i'm going just straight so thats fine with me for now.. so I'm doing 3rd gear and people were driving nice.. somehow timed the lights so I didn't have to stop and slide into someone.
somehow made it up to brentwood and was like maybe i just park and ride into downtown.. then I remember how Mike's rabbit got broken into in the middle of the day and had visions of returning to my car on blocks.. so I said I'll take my chances with the snow
well up by the stadium its just wet!!!!! i'm like WTF!! so I made it to downtown just fine as these kuhmos are quite good in the wet
I just hope the NW melts for the ride home

In my part of town the roads were mostly dry, with some wet patchs so I did not really adjust my driving, plus I am still on all seasons. However on my exit off of Deerfoot I give it a little hard around the loop and got her a little sideways, but was able to correct and keep going. So I guess it is a little slick out there

i gave up. Left Royal Oak at 8:30, took 15 minutes to get to the esso station at country hills and nosehill drive. turned around and am now playing unreal 2004 tourny. I still hope I can pick up my new brakes today Cross-drilled front/back with ceramic pads.

i was big time torn between cross-drilled, slotted, solid. Ya know what? Cross dilled are fine. Cracking is b.s. unless i'm autocrossing EVERY day for 2 hours they aren't cracking. they look awesome, and work very well indeed. Although i'm sure engineering is different, porsche and any exotic comes with crossdrilled... can't be that bad really. My motorcycle had crossdrilled and I put those fronts through pure hell and there was never a sign of cracking or any fatigue.

Slotted are just as good on our cars IMO. I just kinda wanted a little coolness factor.

how much are the TT slotted?

ECS tuning sells the front kit with mintex redboxes for 435 for slotted or 445 for cross and slotted. but i'm confused it says the kit comes with TT carriers is that the caliper then? or do you reuse some stock parts? maybe i'll email them lol

they also have a TT 2 piece setup with those super lite rotors but that kit is 680!

Funny, my first 712 snow drive was not pleasant either, at least in the frozen rain/black ice compared to my stock tires. Funny, I seem to recall seeing the 712's were rated "satisfactory" or a 2/5 for snow/ice. I'd love to see where they test these.

I'm not sure, but I think the TT carrier they are talking about is so you can use the stock calipers with the TT rotors, which are larger diameter than stock. From what I've reat on vortex, they are the same calipers, but larger rotors, so the calipers have to be moved out further from the axle for the rotor to clear and align properly with the caliper. Am I out to lunch on this one?

stampfan.. haha yea people who review tires online are retards.. they say like oh the 712s blow in the snow.. well duh they are a Z rated summer tire.. hell when the roads are dry and its like 0C they are rock hard pretty much..

silverstoned.. yea thats how it works actually now i just have to decide between a 2piece and 1 piece rotor although i might scrap the brakes all together to focus on my home ent. setup so..

LOL I love these Kumho's.... Ya right I drove up to Edmonton the day of the nice snowstorm and man was that interesting... At least I got to feel what the the ol VW drifting down Highway 2 feels like.... 100km/h and drifting isnt that pleasent of a feeling unless you know where the friggin car is going next... All in all I love my Kumhos they are great in the dry and just the wet conditions the Slush and Ice are another story!!!

Oh ya Anand @ mytires.ca is unreal stand up guy and great service... wicked prices as well... he told me he wants to work off of VOLUME not MARKUP like the rest of these jokers out there... So I would highly recomend him.

Man, Calgary really sucks! I don't miss it this spring, mother nature is a tease this time of year. You think it is all good and BAM you get snowed on.
