Re: DSLR Recommendations?
I have a Nikon D3300, it's a decent little camera and is good for starters. It came with a 18mm-55mm lense, its decent but I really wish I got the kit that came with the 55mm-200mm lense. I'm a noob too but I do recommend the Nikon, really easy to use.2003 Volkswagen Jetta Gli

Re: DSLR Recommendations?
Before jumping into a DSLR why not just get a good automatic camera?
Models around the $300 range usually have any options you really need. Something like a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 is fantastic but you can go for a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50 or A Canon GX7 too.

Re: DSLR Recommendations?
I've taken a ton of great shots with a variety of point and shoot cameras, they tend to be underrated. The Olympus one with interchangeable lenses has always intrigued me for hiking and snowboarding.
When I was in journalism school we had to buy SLRs (yeah film, I'm dating myself ) and I did two things. I looked through a National Geographic Photo Annual and noticed that the two big guys (Canon and Nikon) were about proportional to each other. The remainder was a mix of other brands like Leica, Minolta, Olympus, etc. After that I went to a camera store and played around with the best used camera bodies I could afford, and ended up with a Nikon F100. What sold me was the ergonomics. I liked having two wheels on the right side to adjust f/stop and film speed, which I could change front to back according to preference. Canon only had one wheel. Plus, the menus on the Nikon were more intuitive for me. Later on I bought a D90.
When I update my DSLR I'll be looking at another Nikon. Tough cameras and the lenses are tons quieter.
This isn't to say that there's anything wrong with Canon. They take great images.
Hope this helps.Find me on Instagram @pry4sno
