  • Vibrations at high speeds

hey guys, been getting some vibrations at higher speeds around 120km/h in my steering wheel. they are very random and sometimes arent as strong as other times. I had some random spacers in the car before but have now swapped out to 15mm ECS tuning spacers in the back and 10mm H&R spacers in the front now. the vibrations improved but they are still there. the car is on stock wheels with 255/35/19 Toyo Proxe T1s

    So far i have:

-gotten new upper control arms, lower seem to be okay.
-2 wheel balances, however none of these were road force balances.
    -wheel alignment
-have also got brand new rotors and pads as well.

the car has had a lot of other work done as well but i dont think any of the other stuff would affect this issue.

any idea where i should begin to diagnose such an issue?

I'd start with road force balance. Especially on 19"S.

I would guess that its just the spacers. are they hubcentric/wheelcentric?

Also maybe check the wheels for bends or cracks?

        Re: Vibrations at high speeds

i thought it was the spacers too which is why i got new ones that are highly reputable for these cars. ECS tuning 15mm and H&R 10mm. Both spacers are wheelcentric and hubcentric

The back drivers wheel is suppose to have the smallest of bends but techs have told me it should have no impact on drivability at all.

ugh this would be my third wheel balance in 1.5 months :S

I don't have tons of experience, but small issues are more amplified with lower profile tires. If there is a tire issue or wheel issue, weights might get it to spin smooth but when you apply a load to the tire, there may still be something off (bubble in tire, slight bend in wheel). In some case, turning the tire on the wheel can catch issues too if you have a good tire guy.

          I'd recommend Urban Expressions.

(spacers could still be an issue - do they fit snug on both car and wheel? I had an odd set of wheels that I had to machine custom spaces for to get them to fit tight)

hmm yea i suppose thats true. But could the steering wheel shake be related to an issue with the back drivers wheel?

No, you will feel back wheel imbalances in your seat and front wheel imbalances in your steering wheel.

Some tires balance really good but have road force waaaay out of spec. Road force balancing isn't cheap but is worth it. I did road force balancing for about 3 years.

Dont quote me on it but i believe axles could be a place to look as well. Ive had a slight shake from 110 to 120, but its gone now. Ive changed nothing. I had multple wheel balances and they didnt fix anything i left it and now its gone. Did it come once you put the summers on?

                    Re: Vibrations at high speeds

yep, after i put the summers on it was more apparent but maybe thats because i barely went over 110km/h in the winter lol

                      Re: Vibrations at high speeds

Probably tires then. Swap your winters back and see if the vibration is still there

                        Re: Vibrations at high speeds

the only problem is my winters done have any wheels lol.

this is a nightmare lol. i might just get new wheels and tires that dont need spacers to be flush with the fenders

well its everyday haha. i take stoney and Deerfoot every single day and cruising above 100-110 is so annoying when the vibrations happen.

Rotate the wheels/tires front to rear if they are a square setup, and see if the vibration changes (Steering wheel vs shake of the seat)
